I was wondering if anyone can help me out with some info on a pre-Gibson Dobro I'm considering trading for. The current owner doesn't know much about it but this is what I know so far. it's a 1992 square neck (owner says it's "dated" 10-06-92) in good condition. I am looking to trade a perfect Republic tricone for it. Who is it made by and is this a good year for them? I'm trying to get more info, including the serial #. I'm pretty certain that these are photos of it: Thanks in advance.

I did the same Radio Shack Piezo tab thing in one of my Stellas. Pluged into my Roland mini-cube it sounds awesome! Cost a total of $5!

Check out Clapton's "Ramblin' On My Mind". Actually I've never seen him play a reso other than a wood bodied spider. Chris Thomas King is another. Check out Come in My Kitchen and Burned Down the Liquor Store. Haven't seen video, but you can hear them in he songs.

Is there such a thing as a tuner that you can set to tune to to an open tuning like G?

Davey, does the China version have a serial # stamped on the top edge of the headstock? I've heard some decent reviews of the "deluxe" model, which has screened sound holes rather than the "f" holes.

Michael, is that DVD available in the US? Geoff, I'm no expert so take any advice I have with a grain of salt. Are you playing with the slide on your pinky finger? Maybe try you ring finger with the pink curled over the top of the slide. I know the pinky is the most highly recommended. I use both fingers but have more control with it on my ring finger with a pinky assist!

Thanks for the reply Michael, I suspect the same thing. If you look at the photos on the website, they use the exact same photo (as determined by zooming in and checking the fingerprint-like grain pattern) for both. You used to be able to tell them apart by the headstock logo, the China one was a decal and the US was stamped. Now they all are decals. This one is a great deal if it's US made and a rip-off if it's a China made (based on the new prices). I played it for a hour or so and it sounded sweet with no issues. I have a Gold Tone set up in the Beard shop which I love, but the Hound Doug had a very different, swampy tone. And I like swampy! I wasn't planning to buy it but rather working on a trade. That is if I can determine it's origin!

I know this has been discussed, but the search function turned up nuttin'! Is there a way to tell a USA Hound Dog from a China made one? I was playing a used one in a shop today and was curious if it was really a USA one. The Gibson website shows the exact same photos for the USA ($1599) and the China ($450ish) models and the specs are pretty much identical. The one I played sounded great and it was a good deal if it is in fact a USA model. It had the serial # stamped on the top edge of the headstock, which I think I read somewhere was the way to tell a USA model.

for a really good price, anyone familiar with them? It's a mid 60's Crucianelli C-20 and it seems to be very similar to a Harmony Stella (which I love for bottleneck blues!). Looks to be in good shape except for the fretboard needing to be glued back down in one spot. I'm a sucker for a slotted headstock and tailpiece on a parlor guitar! If it sounds at least as good as my Stella, I'll be happy! Does anyone know if they have a truss rod or if there is any available adjustment in the neck. What would the approx cost of a neck reset be (if needed). Here's what I found online: www.fetishguitars.com/html/crucianelli/acoustics/acoustics.html

Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark has always been one of my "desert isle" albums! I read somewhere that she uses over 50 different alternate tunings, largely to compensate for some issues she has from a childhood bout with polio.

Anyone tried one of these: www.republicguitars.com/rp1parlorguitar.htmlI've seen video of Keni Lee Burgess playing one and it's got a nice tone and is much less expensive that the Recording King. For slide, I still love my cheap old Stellas.
