I was wondering if anyone can help me out with some info on a pre-Gibson Dobro I'm considering trading for. The current owner doesn't know much about it but this is what I know so far. it's a 1992 square neck (owner says it's "dated" 10-06-92) in good condition. I am looking to trade a perfect Republic tricone for it. Who is it made by and is this a good year for them? I'm trying to get more info, including the serial #. I'm pretty certain that these are photos of it: Thanks in advance.

Hi Gaucho,
It is very difficult to say how good that guitar is. 1992 was a transition period for Dobros and in my opinion was not a great time for them. However, it may be a great guitar. It is so difficult to advise. 18 years of ageing and mellowing improves all guitars. In my hands I could tell in 30 seconds if it is worth the exchange.
Maybe some more info and better photos?
If you are not happy with your Tricone and are looking for a Dobro, it could be worth doing. Whether it is as good as, or better than a Beard Goldtone is impossible to know without seeing it.
I haven't been much help have I.
Shine On Michael.

Hi Gaucho For what its worth ..... Don't trade. Have both I've always regretted trading or selling guitars/amps etc and so wish I still had some of them that I let go but I've never regretted a purchase. I do however suffer quite badly from GAS ( Gear aquisition syndrome ) so my advice should probably be ignored.
