TO my Taste I like my Beltona Tricone better than an NRP.I find that the sharp edges on the NRP rest on an old operation scare on my arm and seem to be more uncomfortable on my leg.I find that mine is a bit sweeter and a little less strident.

If you are looking for a 12fret single cone I think that Steve Evans has a 12 fret brass Beitona wich he played himself (you wont find a much better guitar )

If memory serves Don Young (very early on) made a few painted wood resos in his garage.these come close but i dont know how you would find one.sadly over here buying an old National is like a lucky dip(some are very good &some are awful and some are just ok).I have swapped cones between vintage guitars in the past and cones that sounded great in one guitar would not sound so good in another.

I have seen worse(in fact owned worse)I inherited a Regal fiddle edge from my friend Colin Brooks. It ha two holes drilled for tone an volume pots & a couple of holes in the side but the worst thing that had been done to it was the neck.It had a large headstock grafted on to it& It had the back of the neck carved and painted like a totem pole,it had Hank special in large letters up the neck & Rhine stones stuck all over it. I had a new neck made for it & it was my go to guitar until I gave up gigging. when I stopped using it I left it in the hands of leeophonic. i suspect It was the handy work of a chap called Les Western as he was well known for doping odd things to guitars and was a huge hank williams fa.

Sadly due to medication my hands dont work to well these days(this is why I play mostly lap style, when my hands start to shake it helps with the vibrato)I have a 1927 style 5 square neck that I got from snake hips.As its such a rare guitar I would like to have the case refurbished and due to my hand problems I dont want to try it myself

Not only Gibson, I had a Martin OM18V which had the same problem.I took it to a friend who makes his living spraying modern furniture & restoring antique. he said that it can be a problem with water based finishes. I didnt mind as I got the guitar for a fraction of the value. I can understand why they made the law but i dont think it worked as well (a bit like non lead solder as apposed to leaded )
