I would like to see one in the flesh as the photo makes it look a size, I have an original Leno and hardly ever capo but a professional on the road would need all the advantages so lets feel the width when I get the chance.

Set it up without the cover plate to see what is happening with the strings at the nut and bridge as Marshcat says, also tailpiece and tuners and internal sound posts all react at different resonances/pitch, when the cover plate goes back on that also changes things as strengthens the body, the soldered ribs and mesh to the rear of the coverplate is also worthy of inspection. Good luck, where are you for luthier recommendations if it requires more than you try Lee

Good price at Elderly snap it up if you live in the US, not so cheap by the time you ship to the mothership of Resonators (Europe)

Michael wrote..... The 1956 Oahu 'Symphony In White' lap steel with the Supro pickup was a gift from George when I was there in 1985.
When Dave did the heart/pickup transplant from the lapsteel to the Kingcaster the body and case remained unloved in the workshop, I acquired the case for another lapsteel that needed a home, I still have the case and since then acquired a lap steel the spit of your original, I will put my neck on the line and say the best conditioned one in the UK.

At one of the guitar shows (Kempton I think) there was an engraver there who was doing some guitar related work, they were london based and also had a crossover with shotguns. I seem to remember Dave King was there that year also, it maybe that they were engraving tuners or some other part.
I have done some engraving on metal with a Dremel when having to mark tools and other items for inventory, nothing artistic but a great aid was masking tape applied 1st and drawn on to stop slippage, other than that good luck.

it was an attractive price, I seem to remember back in the day steve using those finishes were trimite paint similar to hammerite but a more trade related product. Steve refinished a tenor for me using one from this range.
Who ever got it well done.

I am lucky to be around Dave Kings workshop from time to time and saw the different prototypes and stripped down originals as the eventual New Fiddle edge came to be, a few of us were sworn to secrecy or be garrotted with Newtone strings if the cat was let out of the bag. Continuing on from the before we are in the during phase and have played one that was ready for it's new customer and they are alive and vibrant, uplifting if there is such a term when you play a guitar that opens the door to new tunes. So the Before, During & the after will be when they have all flown the nest as only a limited run, buyers get saving as they will be gone sooner or later and leave no room for regret. If you have not gathered I like them. Regards Lee

John Alderson is a fine woodworker who made the replacement neck for my Golden Fiddle edge (Avatar). There a few Hollowneck Dobros being made in Germany (Manzantia??) 20 years or so ago, maybe thats the Genesis of the idea but the headstock is different and the body shape is like the experimental Dobro that was in the Dorera exhibition prior to being auctioned off.
Interesting stuff.
