Hi Michael, I got your new teaching DVD at Bluesweek 2006, which I believe was "hot off the press". Managed to have a quick view last night - it's great (no less expected of course!). I'd never been a fan of teaching videos 'cos I could never really see what was going on, but the camera angles used on this one make it easy for even me to see what's happening. A great companion to the Sound Techniques DVD. Brilliant & recommended. Where can people get them from? (a hint for an advert!) Regards Charlie ;D - (my playing is getting better all the time)

Hi Charlie, Great stuff! You got the DVD..... Sorry I missed you on Friday - thanks for the kind words. The new DVD 'An Introduction to Blues Slide Guitar' will be available from the Euro Blues Website, the London Resonator Centre and various other outlets. The copies available at Blues Week were literally hot off the press. The will be a page on my website about it very soon. Adverts in guitar & blues mags will also appear soon. Glad you like the camera angles - it was an idea that I had wanted to do for a long time. I really believe it is a better camera angle, because it is viewed from the player's perspective and not as a spectator. (Still shot from the new DVD >'An Introduction to Blues Slide Guitar with Michael Messer') Keep in touch Charlie, Shine On, Michael

Hi Michael, Also just received your tuition DVD. Ordered it last week from Euro Blues Promotions and it arrived within 5 days, something of a record for this part of the word! Needless to say it is brilliant and full of useful tips and hints. Should keep me busy for weeks learning all those classic licks. I like the building blocks approach. It gives you a foundation on which to build your own style of playing. Good on yer. Also loved the sound of that Fine Resophonic. Do they ever turn up secondhand? If not, I will have to start saving my pennies All the best, Joe (aka Mairena Red) PS How about a DVD on lap-style Dobro and Hawaiian?

Hello Joe,
Good to hear from you. Five days....not bad! I am glad you the DVD and the building blocks approach, rather than teaching songs and tunes. It allows the student space to develop their own style, rather than just mimicing the teacher's playing. Thanks for the kind words. Let me know how you get on with it - and if you have any questions....I'll do my best to answer them.
Regarding second-hand 'Fine Resophonic' guitars - I have only seen 3 in the past 10 years....2 were at LRC and the other was at the Christie's Eric Clapton auction 7 years ago. If one turns up it is definitely worth getting, but I also think that having a guitar made for you is a wonderful thing to own. I am certain that Mike Lewis Fine Resophonic guitars will be collectors guitars and will rise in value as time goes by......which annoyingly it seems to do with haste these days!
Dobro / lap-style blues slide / Hawaiian - Tutorial DVD is in the pipeline.
Take care, Shine On, Michael.

Hi Michael, Thanks for your swift response, I will let you know how I get on with the DVD. Also looking forward to the release of the Dobro/lap style/Hawaiian DVD. If it'll help me get my head around those two Hawaiian numbers you played in your set at Alexander's last February, it'll definitely be worth the money Re the Fine Resophonic, I am sure they are the dog's bollocks (if you'll pardon the expression), but at over 3,000€ they are a bit out of my price range. I am sure you are right that they will keep their value but for the time being my only hope is of finding one second hand. I do like the idea of a wooden bodied single cone but there does not seem to be a budget model on the market. Recent postings suggest that a Pete Woodman Avalon could be a good bet and I like the sound of the Delta Mississippi, though it's a little more expensive. Looks like a trip to the LRC is in order when I'm over in October. Speaking of which, any chance of a reply to my earlier thread entitled "Tour Dates for Oct/Nov 2006" ? All the best, Joe (aka Mairena Red)

Re the Fine resaphonic @ the Christies auction either it was a late addition or it didn,t make the catalogue as there was a replated Duolian, a studio 66, a Beltona Triplate (Colin?) a NRP M1 and a Mosrite 12 string Dobro.!
Or was there another auction?
Regards Lee.

Hi Lee,
You are correct in your observations of the catalogue. I actually worked on the auction and helped/advised Richard Chapman (Christie's guitar person) on the age/condition/rarity/value...etc of the resophonic guitars and one or two National & Supro electrics. As far as I remember.....and I may be wrong, but Michael J Fox bought the Beltona from the auction for a very large amount of money. This was not just because it was owned by EC, but because many wealthy celebrities help support the Crossroads charity.
Originally there were 250 or so guitars put into the auction, but Christie's advised EC to reduce the amount of instruments as it would make it a more special & interesting auction. When I visited Christie's the Fine Resophonic and numerous other guitars were waiting to be assessed. I think the Fine Resophonic Tricone was part of the 2004 Christie's EC auction in NYC, but I was not involved, so I can't be sure.
Eric Clapton now has three Fine Resophonic instruments - one of which is a little red ukulele.
And now >>>>>Back to my TEACHING DVD!!!!!!
Shine On, Michael
