The two guitarists on the Walter Rhodes recording were "Pet & Can"."Pet & can" were Maylon & Richard Harney.Richard Harney knew Charley Patton personally. It is possible it came from hearing Patton perform the song in the years prior to his recording of it.

Harriet!,snap......great minds think alike.
Big Joe,underrated Ithink. His first half-dozen or so records are as good as any Delta blues I have heard.

The only other pre-war blues using quills I can think of....beautiful sound.

My first slide was cut from the leg of an old school chair. It had a tubular steel frame, fit my finger a treat.Sounded great...only trouble was when I removed it my finger turned a gunky deep blue black colour...it was like dye and a b*gger to scrub off.

I have never seen or played a Mule resonator. It looks great. The tailpiece is not as elegant as a National one....I would be tempted to swap it.

Enjoyed that - I'm familiar with Will Batts Dane Sane and Will Batts, old Frank Stokes cronies, both played in Jack Kelly`s jug band.Worth checking out-more bluesy and less hokum than a jugband usually is.

Harriet Fred sings "I got a girl in Germany,Lord, I got three in Spain, I got a Woman in Memphis, lord, I`m even scared to call her name" On the CD"My Home is in the Delta".The song is"Diving Duck Blues".He sings these lyrics as opening stanza. A fine CD and a great performance.I think it is Fred with a little tongue in cheek braggadocio, probably following European tours after his discovery. The fact he groups Germany with Spain makes me think he means the country and not the Memphis"German town".Hope this is helpful.

Harriet,Well done.I really like this very much.I have not logged in for sometime.i was pleased to hear this. You do a mean Fred McDowell.Gret tone,dynamics,vocals...really very impressive. Talking of Germany blues.Didn`t Fred use the lyrics: "I've got a girl in Hamburg ... I've got three in Spain". On his black lion lp.This similarly is a version of"Frisco Lines" called"Germany Blues".Maybe that`s where the title/confusion comes from?. Maybe Fred never got around to singing that stanza on the version you were inspired by. Talking of"German" here is a big favourite of mine:
Great stuff,Harriet.
