From 1970 to 1985ish I used sections of a brass curtain rail as a slide ( I still have a few inches of it somewhere) . Then I bought what must have been a 'picato pete's Bull Nose '. This has been my main slide since then. Straight from the box, it was unusable! It had been polished (on a lathe?) with 200grit glass paper, so was very scratchy, and it was also a little long. Half an hour with some wet and dry , and a hacksaw and it was perfect. A friend of a friend, found some old stock from a music store, so I now have a new one. PT Attachment Deletedy

I bought a few of those when I still had a local music shop (long gone), once you work out that you can cut it to length and polish out the original machining it is has remained my go to slide, I have more exotic slides but this one is very utilitarian.

AH, that's a great feeling - congratulations!
I remember when I was using a metal slide I favored the Robert Johnson one and wanted a second to cut down - and they stopped making it.
I spent some time calling around and scouring online stockists to see if there was any residual stock I could get and called the maker all to no success.
The effort lead to getting one of Daddyslide's custom length which I liked better, so it ended well though.

There are probably quite a few of these slides out there, too long and unpolished. If this was your first slide, and had no players around to tell you why it felt 'wrong' in would probably end up in the back of a draw. PT

My first slide was cut from the leg of an old school chair. It had a tubular steel frame, fit my finger a treat.Sounded great...only trouble was when I removed it my finger turned a gunky deep blue black colour...it was like dye and a b*gger to scrub off.

Hi Pete, Didn't you buy a brass 'RockSlide' ball-tip version from me at one of Michael's blues weekends a few years ago? ~ those are shorter than the Picato Pete and have that curved 'cut' on the lower edge Slide On! Ian.

Well remembered, yes I still have it, it does act as a spare, but it is parallel, rather than slightly cone shaped. The old 'picato' one is perfect! PT

The 'Rock' slide is in the middle, Another favourite slide is the blue glass on the left. I got it from some dodgy guy at a blues event, it is a little large, hence the green tape inside. PT
