Yes played out of spanish tuning as was Fred`s.As for close version of song they come no closer than Fred`s origianally.I think when learning it is better to always learn fronm source. They don`t come much better than Fred !

For me I would try to learn some simple fingerpicking pattern for your picking hand. This is before learning harder tunes.Just do pattern without chording strings until it feel natural for you.Should get finger and thumb seperated. Then start on tunes. Many years back when beginning I was shown some very simple picking pattern that were very helpful. If used as regular exercises they should help very much.

I enjoyed this very much.A great mic sound.Personality of each guitar is so different.I like the cut of the Richter and the reso sounding great. The NICK LUCAS has that plummy gibson sound.Less focused than ladder guitar but very nice.Your playing is very good.Very authentic sound. Also anyone who play a song by King Solomon Hill is a winner to me. eggy

For me I use a tight vibrato, mostly coming from my wrist.I find it easier to control in general and for more uptempo i find it easier.I do use a wide vibrato now and then for a variety. eggy

Michael,You are absolutely correct in your comparison of Son`s "county farm" and Lemon`s "Jack of diamonds".It fascinating to me that "county farm" was basically a request in the studio to Son to cover Lemon`s"see that my grave is kept clean".It`s amazing how Son came to a similar approach.I wonder if Son listen to a record of "Jack of diamonds"to hear how Lemon would approach a bottleneck tune?.Your fascinating articles have me thinking very much. eggy

Wonderful articles. Was pleased very much to read your thoughts on Bo Weavil Jackson,a wonderful player.I think Blind Lemon recorded a couple slide tunes in `26 also. Two take of Jack of diamonds.I think i read Leadbelly learn to play slide from Lemon in early 1900`s.It is a shame that Lemon never recorded more of his slide repetoire. It makes me thinking what we have missed out on by him and other blues players of early era. Thank you Michael for posting your articles very informative.

All of Blind Joe Taggart from these sources. His "Preshious(sic) Lord" on images calendar is especially moving to me(Images calendar also has wonderful Lane Hardin "Cartey Blues").I think he may be one of the very first Guitar Evangelists for recording. He is certainly among the very best. eggy.

You must not cut end from these strings until they are up to tension on tuner otherwise windings come loose from core and string is ruined.I just snip them to tuner.
