Wonderful films. The thing that get me a lot is Rev.Brown`s voice.Powerful singer.I enjoyed to see him listening to the Willie Johnson 78.Good to see Rev.Brown learn the same as the rest of us .

In a strange way this hypnotic music reminds me of Skip Jmes.A very nice band.

Tommy McClennan,Robert Petway,Memphis Minnie,Kansas Joe McCoy,Rev.Gary Davis,Blind Boy Fuller,Bo Carter,Scrapper Blackwell, Riley Puckett,Willie Lofton-all players from pre war who record with National in standard tuning. Many more players I think use a National post war and in discovery period. Not unusual to hear a National played in standard tuning.

In a case containing an old regal 12 string I found a small silver guitar shaped brooch.Nothing to amuse or to turn stomach(vomit in guitar )but a pleasing suprise. eggy

A masterful performace by Johnny Shines. Not imitation though like other videos here. For me i prefer this voice of Shines to Johnson`s voice.Shines was a great great guitarist-of course he travelled with Johnson swapped ideas with him ,he picked up a thing or two from Robert!. eggy

Harriet
I read that Patton used Cleats on his shoes for more volume from feet. Also that Skip James stamp on a wooden board in studio for recording.Perhaps a combination of two may work for a good sound. eggy

Charlie Patton,Lemon Jefferson,Skip James and others all made recordings with miked feet.To me it adds much interest and drive to a singer.

Jack Kelly`s South Memphis Jugband.Great bluesy Jugband. That included friend of Frank Stokes. Will Batts and Dan Sane.I have tried to work for a one guitar version of this tune. But it never will sound right.I love Stokes/Sane and this group shows more to Dan Sane`s ability a great musician.

I think Skip`s 1931 recordings on the cd for Yazoo are most important listening. For later years Skip James/Today on vanguard recordings are very good excellent to hear.I too love Skip James. For me his 1931 records are right along with the greatest in country blues. One of the great singers of country blues too. eggy
