I never comment on the forum or anywhere publicly about living musicians because that crosses into territory that I dislike, which is working musicians being critics and reviewers while they are still making records and touring. I think it is a bad place to be because one should not stick out what you don't want chopped off. However, having never knowingly listened to this artist's work until this morning, I just wish there was another title for the genre of this new record, because I would prefer that it doesn't come under the same heading as the music I play and have dedicated my life to for the past 40+ years.
Nice car.
Shine On Michael.

Out of curiosity I've heard the first minute or so of a few tunes of his, but it's pretty unpleasant to my ears. I actually got to over 2 minutes with this though, mainly cos MM took the time to post it. Thanks LOL. To be fair, the lyrics are no more trite as some blues rock out there, and the shredding is akin to what many blues rock axe players strive for it seems. However, it' completely horrible and meaningless - it's more a vehicle to display his vulgarity rather than any attempt to understand where blues comes from. But it's honest I suppose, cos it's exactly what you would expect from the guy. TT

Swot I was thinking TT! He's certainly no worse than many around, couple of tasty licks, and who knows some young guitarist listening might dig deeper and find some blues! I want to know why he's living my lifestyle instead of me! Lol!
Best wishes to you all, John

Many bands in where I live play rock and call it blues. With the best will in the world they might be good at what they do but it ain't blues. I remember a few years ago going for an audition as a vocalist for a blues band. I said what shall we play ? The guitarist ask, do you know "Mustang Sally". That's soul music. No it's blues mate..

When I was growing up, R&B meant the Rolling Stones and the Who. Now it means Ariana Grande. It's just words. (Speaking of which, those lyrics ... my God!)

I'm no fan of Yngwie. Playing a bit of Asturias in a Rock / Metal (call it what you like) idiom does not qualify him for my shekels. Now I think about it- didn't he have some somersaulting party trick going on? Like Keith Emerson although not as impressive? I have the G3 DVD with Yngwie and I always fast forward his contribution. Here's the thing though; he always seems to come across as a genuine good bloke who is enthusiastic about what he does- really wants to entertain, but it's a long way from what I'd choose. Perhaps it's those leather trews on the G3 DVD! Sorry Yngwie- no offence Bud.

The fact that he thinks he is playing rock blues is not my point and I neither am I commenting on how genre names have changed. I have spent my whole career stretching and twisting those boundaries.

When I was 17 in the late eighties, and just starting to play guitar, all you saw in the guitar magazines were the ‘hair metal’ shredders, Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen and the wannabes. It took one school friend to tune me into early Clapton, and another to tune me into Gilmour to start to understand where the good stuff was.
Listened to, and enjoyed lots of different genres since including some metal. Doesn’t matter as long as it has feel and speaks to me.
This sounds so 80s. It looks so Eighties. Gated drums!
I might be starting to like it....😱

How out of touch with you kids am I?! I'd never heard of this geezer until this thread! I thought he was some new kid on the block. Seems lots of people like him. Do they care if we don't? Shouldn't think so! Regards the blues, I was playing the Collins, Cray and Copeland album Showdown this morning. Three undoubted masters of blues guitar and an award-winning album. Had to listen quite hard to hear any blues though! I've had the pleasure of Albert Collins playing at our table in a club, an entirely different experience! Best wishes to you all, John

I look forward to see what Yngwie is doing with the genre... its got to be better than metal Christmas, or Christan rap music... im not familiar with him in particular but he does have a reputation...
. imwo, There are more than a couple of players who have developed incredible technique and speed without a shred of soul... some do get funky sometimes and admittedly Joe Satriani has done some blusey things i like... on the other hand, id use steve vai as cat repellant... I give em all a shot but im admittedly prejudiced against cats who can play transmorgraphic scales 1/ 128 notes flawlessly at 600 bpm.. there is a guy on youtube goes by the name " buckethead" he plays anonymously with bucket on his head. Probably the best shredder ive ever seen. Makes me wonder if there wasnt cocaine in his mothers milk...lol
Actually, Im just jealous because half fast is as fast as ill ever go...lol

The fact that he thinks he is playing rock blues is not my point and I neither am I commenting on how genre names have changed. I have spent my whole career stretching and twisting those boundaries. My point is that to be associated in any way whatsoever with what this artist is doing (file under blues, featured in a blues publication, or just people saying that he is playing blues), is nothing short of embarrassing. To call it blues, rock blues, Ferrari blues, bollox blues, or any type of blues, is a joke and it is not a funny one. Now I am drifting into that area of musicians critiquing other musicians in public. Nice car. That is not an old timer's comment, I would have said the same when I was eighteen. Shine On Michael Hello Michael, all... I managed to get 1:39 into the piece and I would call that "Overcooked Vapid Materialist Disease Blues" ... lol, its obviously pentatonic onanism for adolescents. Not my cup of tea these days but i admittedly cringe when i think of some of stuff I listened to before I heard Chester Burnett and Wes Montgomery. MIchael, i appreciate your gentlemanly consideration in not dissing another working muscian... not feeling quite as polite, Its my opinion that that one minute and thirty nine seconds was one of the worst excuses for blues ive ever heard... just trite and contrived manic shredding. TT termed it " vulgar " ... unfortunately this kind of ostentatious buffoonery is considered an enviable personality trait here in murca by an awful lot of people. It would probably make for a good discussion but the " blues " for me represents a personal expression of emotion from the heart... it's obvious when its there and just as obvious when not. .o2 jeff Edit : after another listen, i realize that this excuse for blues is actually worse than metal christmas music and dang near as bad as christian hip hop. Its almost comical...
