BBC tv have some very good programs at the moment. One might well be on tonight that could be of interest. Mississippi, Earths Great Rivers, must mention blues and possibly slide guitar at some point, (though the sound track may go to the default setting and play Ry Cooder doing ‘Paris Texas’) I live in hope, but will have to watch it at a later time. If you watch it and it’s terrible, please write a review so others won’t have to, thanks in advance. Pete

Sorry Pete and thanks for the heads up, I'll watch it later - there's a matter of life and death to deal with which overlaps - Manchester City vs. Liverpool on Radio 5 Live.

I would expect it to make a mere passing reference to the Blues tradition. Suspect THIS (In Four Parts) would be a safer bet.

I remember it the first time around. The narrator is the wonderful Alexis Korner. Alexis died 35 years ago on New Year's Day 1984. He is still missed, even after all these years. Shine On Michael

I saw the start of last night's programme, but dozed off pretty rapidly. Such musical content as I heard wasn't promising.
I believe Reginald D Hunter's series "Songs of the South" is scheduled for repeat next week though. Starts on 11th Jan from memory, but check me.
And yes, I miss Alexis Korner's radio series still. Is it really 35 years?

How have I missed it? I didn't even know about it! Must have been working hard busy all those years ago so I can be a lazy reso player in my retirement today, I s'pose. ...and as for last night? 4 points ahead is better than second place at this stage.

It's well worth trawling through iplayer occasionally PD. A lot of good stuff lies in the vaults for ages.

BBC4 TV tonight, Woody Guthrie, 3chords and the Truth. If it’s as good as last weeks program about skiffle, and it place in the development of folk/blues and rock in Britain ,it will be well worth a look. Pete

In the United Kingdom you are very lucky to have this kind of programming. In Murica these days the teevee watches US...
I generally dont watch it at all but will admit the guilty pleasure of sorta watching premier league soccer football on Saturday mornings while thumbing through arpeggios and such...😎
Seriously: much of the programming I do watch about American culture comes from overseas via the web. It can get depressing to think that our musical culture is mostly unknown in the land where it came from...My only answer, turn it up to 12.

Id never heard this nor have I ever heard of the artist. Dang if that aint the way Ive been trying to play crow jane et al for the last 40 years... its a weird rhythm thing that I think comes from the marching band processional sound I grew up with. I dont play it with a silde but that rhythm is where my instinct has taken me with that progression... Thanks for posting this Michael. J😎
