Apparently there is a new Robert Johnson documentary / film on Netflix starting today (may have this wrong). I'll try and find more details, unless someone knows them already. TT

I'll give it a look, but the trailer looks rather hackneyed. TT

I hope that netflix is not pretending that this is " reality " tv... having seen the remnants of sharecropper slavery, imagining how a poor black man lived in Mississippi at the time, I listen to RJ and that is all the legend I need...

Judging by the trailer I think this might come under the 10 minute rule!
Best wishes to you all, John

Generation by generation all this stuff gets diluted. It has turned into romantic fantasy bullshit. It is interesting to hear Bonnie and others talk about his genius, but let's not get too carried away. His music is one of the most beautiful sounds of the 20th century. I love it almost beyond description, but it does not form THE template for what became rock'n'roll. It forms a small part of the template of what became rock'n'roll, or more to the point, 60s rock music.
There were people playing music in the 1930s that resembled rock'n'roll in various areas in the USA, that were not influenced by him. I could write a long list of musicians from many States that contributed to that melting pot, but I won't.
This is becoming mythology and legend, no different to King Arthur and his sword.

so ..have you watched the whole think Michael? am viewing later Jono, the trailer was enough to stop me from wanting to see any more. I guess at some point I will see it, but the music is really all I need, because that's all there is. I have been around the blues for my whole working life, it's my job and maybe I view it in a different way because of that. I was romanticising about Robert Johnson's life when I was 17 and I have been studying and listening to his music and other blues masters for the past 46 years. That doesn't mean I am jaded, but it does allow me the option to be choosy about what I watch, listen to and play. Shine On Michael (grumpy old bastard!)
