Thanks to Gareth for organising last night. Although I did not sit in and play much, nerves, watching John play has given me loads of stuff to practice. Soon as I got home I was practising chords in G tuning, plus the different licks I had picked up. The biggest thing I got out of last night apart from meeting like minded folks, was that you can read all the books and buy as many teaching videos as you like but nothing beats watching talented people play, to inspire you and to learn from. Thanks again Gareth and everybody who turned up it was nice to see some old friends, sorry I cannot make the next one but I will be there on the 4th november. Regards Roger

Hi Maxxengland
I live in the county town of Warwick...we have had Warwick Words events for writers on at various locations Thursday through til Sunday so unfortunately i wasn't able to get to bromsgrove otherwise it would have been nice to meet you all. I think it is about 25 miles or so from me...passed through on many occassion...a direct route by car but next to useless as far as public transport is concerned...a train to Brum and back out to redditch / bromsgrove is too long for me. transport withstanding and good weather i will try to get to some meetings over the winter.
best wishes

I personaly had a great time and would like to thank everyone who came and i look forward to Meeting the ones who could not make it at the next session on sunday the 24th Oct

Hi Maxx...yeah i know the stoneythorpe hotel...not familiar with Henry's though...guess i should get out more ...Southam is pretty much a two street town though;D...it is a crossroads betweem Leamington Coventry Banbury and Daventry so i would expect it gets a good crowd there...so i am sure you will have a good night. regards

HI Gareth. Slidin' occasionally plays tricks : he probably saw you avidly watching his finger-patterns and decided to jerk you around. He does that. We still love him.
I've seen him do that tune several times, and I don't think he forms chords. In open D you don't have to ; just bar the whole fret. But I don't think he does that, in that song, either. But you never know with Steve.
Come to Blues Night tomorrow and watch him closely. But it won't help : I've been trying to nick his licks for more than 18 months and I still don't have it.

sorry bob can't get there this week, i'm going to check out frankly guitar club, but if you could secretly video him at work and paste it to this site, then that would be great, (also check that he isn't using mirrors(Only Joking))

Hi gareth me and Jules will be there Sunday, Just a thought might be a good idea to film some of the guys who are doing the lessons,if they dont mind ,then make a few copies on disk for each other,i find that when we film some of our lessons with John it really helps to remember what we have been learning. wolvoboy(Pete}

hi Wolvoboy and Jules Well that makes 3 of us, does that constitute a crowd or a club. I think the filming is a good idea, as long as people don't mind, the problem is i do not have a reasonable camera although i do have the facility to copy to my PC, i've been thinking about putting an advert in the bromsgrove standard apparently the will put in an article and a picture for free.
any suggestions
Gareth

I am not plugging for business, but as an idea, if you put on a concert to plug the club, it would generate more media interest and give the club a 'launch event' to focus on.
If you are interested in pursuing this idea, send me a private message.

Hi guys..I wont be here this Sunday - we've got a gig.
For filming , a mobile phone works just fine - it's pretty crude but effective and informal. Its also simple to just plug in a USB cable and download. I usually play a verse of a number thru', and then do a slowed-down take of it. That's plenty of time to show the basic techniques. For the person doing the demo, it means you have to concentrate to put all of the stuff into one short and manageable passage. As far as I'm concerned, slowing things down to at least half pace is essential, so the viewer can really see what's going on.
