Hi, I have never tried a busker tricone, but I have had a continental tricone that compared very well to the Beltona I have(very nice bound ebony fingerboard diamond inlays style4 flow through engraving & better tuners than you tend to get on NRP guitars(some of which were yery bad) I sold this guitar to a freind of mine who owns 3 or 4 vintage Nationals (square neck tri cones) & he finds the sound compaires very well.just to add more confusion I have seen an early Jhonson with an Amistar body. As a hard up musican I would go for the second hand NRP as it is the guitar that is most likely to make its money back should you need to sell it.

Just done a pickup comparison (sadly on two quite different guitars) no 1 a lace slim line hum-bucker on a Dave King style N.It had a good slightly electric sound with a high output, and was nice and warm but didnt seem to have much cone in it.No2 was a National hotplate fitted to a Delphi de luxe & was a nice surprise as it sounded just like the guitar but louder(not such high output though) very impressed. both guitars were going through the same amp(AER acoustic) on the same settings. hope this is of interest. Hi again, Its not that the mike is feeding but that it seems to have a low out put and a muddy sound &a huge amount of handling noise..I have used different inputs & it still sounds crap ( just touch the mic stand and you get a echoing thud that wont go away) I have never seen her band play & if they get this sort of sound all the time I dont think I want to. Thanks for your help. Chris

Hi, the strange thing is that she sings with a function band as well and has no problem. There is nothing wrong with my desk& I don't have the problem with any other Mic.Playing mostley small venues I thought that the speakers were to close to the Mic,but last night we were in a large hall with plenty of room to set up & still had the problem.

Hi, I have a problem. The lady singer that I play with has her own mike (SM58 Beta)& no matter what I do it feeds, booms &is very microphonic. My first thought was that it was a fake but she bought it from a reputable shop.it produces a lot of handling noise. She tends to eat the mike so it tends to be a bit heavy on the bass(proximity effect)I use an AKG & have no problem whatever & find it has a higher output lower handling noise& much more definition. I know it sounsd strang but I am wondering if her mike just dosent like my pa.(Dynacord desk ,pair of SR tops and a 300watt SR powered Bass Bin) Any suggestions much appreciated as this is driving me batty.

Hi,in my experience the MU are a waste of time.Dont know if its changed but I gave up on it when I found that my local rep (who was a Jazz player )was working for so much under the union rate that he may as well have been doing it for free, ie why should I pay you that sort of money when I can get a 7peice band for £20 and beer. They are very little help when it comes to car insurance(I ended up with Equity insurance who specialise in the entertainment industry, much better and cheaper.BTW I have many freinds who are members of equity& they look after there members much better than the MU(Leglal advice free specalist medical adviice & financial help if you become sick and unable to work)

Hi, always have been sharks,a good friend of mine played in a cult 60's band & it took him 27years to get any money from his management company& as far back as the 30's the great jazz man Kid Ory(who wrote muskrat ramble) had to fight for his royaltys for over 10 years.as a thought I rember reading somewhere that Simon Cowell insisted on playing a triangle on records he produced so he could get paid a session fee.buissness and art just dont mix very well.

Hi,your neck stick should attach to end block & I would try to get it sorted if I were you(it will compamise the stablty of the neck& wont help the sound at all. As for bolt on necks ,I have often wondered if they would work.I am talking about the way they bolt banjo necks with two cordinater rods which run all the way through the body& would run througt the body at the base of the guitar with a bolt on the outside. As far as I can see it would add strength to the body & also allow neck angle adjustment.I dont think that a neck that is bolted to e neck block on a metal body reso will work at all well.

Hi,I thought that I may have got it wrong so I phoned Parcel force and was told that they exclude any instrument that has been customised in any way & will not cover any instrument that is not cased and boxed& that even if you do pay to cover it for £500 they will only cover it for £150 so you may as well save your money(cant find any mention of this in terms and conditions but was told that it is the case.)
