Looking at the serial number it would be interesting to know how this works as it does not reflect the numbers made, if it did Michael would be in the Rolls Royce showrooms looking for a runabout.

I am in the middle of a conversion, well having the either or option on my fiddle edge, to compensate for the offset spider which mine does not have the guitarI has a compensated scale length as it was re built and re necked as originally it was a project of just a body and coverplate.
As regards the national cone I have done a trial fitting with a spare cone that is kicking around and it sits well on the shelf.
Michael has supplied me with a biscuit for the conversion, and there is an original mid thirties cone in the pipeline.
At the moment everything is on hold as I have a period of life's contemplation following a woodworking misadventure and a circular table saw!!! At the moment I struggle to play lap style let alone Spanish style so we will see how long this takes.

I saw that, with cones and bridge it may be worth a punt, as is I am avoiding it, I am not sure if the Tricone bridges are compatible with the layout of tenors, tailpieces would need to be four strings (Mandolin???)
If you have another donor tenor then it may be worth considering.

Paypal with the friends and family option is pretty instant and painless.
I recently bought an Asher guitar (UK to US) that way with no loss to either party.

Another approach which I have been following with interest (Joey Landreth) is use Baritone strings and tune to open C, that has some wallop.

Just to Add I know where Michael is coming from the bog standard ones but there were some good ones, I have had a few custom specials over the years, interestingly one fancy all black squareneck was signed by Don Young inside!!!
I owned a Zephyr and a Mahogany special and a few others, I shudder when I remember what has passed through the revolving door.

OMi made some interesting models, quality can be a little variable but with a few upgrades, bone nut & set up they can be brought to life.
Cheap fun.

The magazine is a great snapshot in time,
I played the Beltona Electro late last year, I still like that guitar although I know Michael never bonded with it, that,s how guitars are I guess some just feel right.
How many of those slides have you still got Michael, I know from the guitars only about three remain.

Pete is also a forum member, Great player who I first heard when he was included on a free CD giveaway with a mid 90,s UK guitar magazine doing a feature on Michaels guitars, I have a copy somewhere in the stuff mountain.
So now Pete is mentioning Michael, the wheel has gone full circle.
If Pete checks in to this thread tell us more about how he came across the Doprea original, what a guitar to have as your 1st resonator, I have seen it recently in for maintenance at Dave Kings workshop.
Pete over to you.....

They are evolving/changing, weigh less, Hot Rod cones, more Empathis on CNC necks, the mojo of Don is no longer in the DNA of the company. Some of the older ones are good though, and the new ones are pretty interesting too, aside from the water based finish on the necks which I am not a fan of.
