With a vintage cone the neck set should be like original meaning no removal of wood at the heal! with an NRP more tilt is required to drive the thicker cone!

Hi Fred, I’ll double-check later on but I’m pretty sure it was 3-48, but “slotted, pan head” is what we all really want, instead of oval, domed, round etc. Yes that's right I've got the packaging right here and it says- nickel plated brass, low dome-slot head #3/48,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Kenny,,,,,,

Anybody care to comment on this National Radiotone from the 90s? Its on Facebook and looks quiet interesting They are nice ,very loud wood body on account of a metal cone rest platform. I have a 89 signed by Don Young wood body with a vintage cone its my favorite guitar for Spanish tuning ,,,,,,,,,,,,

I would guess that the cheaper the cone the thicker (and heavier) it will be. I have weighed Dobro cones in the past, and even with domestic kitchen scales cheap ones are much heavier. Is the thinner (and lighter) aluminium is harder to spin? I would expect so. Once a manufacturer has decided on a gauge of metal for his cones it will probably take a lot to change. Pete Might be interesting to compare NRP standard and Hot Rod cones , do they have the same pressing and only differ in thickness? NRP's first cones were shorter and lighter of course then they made them taller and heavier at some point (not sure what year now) than vintage ones, now they are closer to vintage in height but slightly heavier, the biggest difference is the alloy as they can't replicate the vintage alloy on account of the way the aluminum is smelted now days,,, Kenny

Fred, I tend to recognise cones by the way they are made. Going by weight is okay, but not totally reliable. Each spinner has their own signature and when you've seen lots of them it becomes obvious who made what. Shine On Michael Yes like Michael says, and its easy to spot an original cone just by looking through the cover-plate,,,,,,,,,,,,, Kenny,,,,,,,,

Its the body taper that determines angle over the cone, the neck should be on the same plane as the guitar top!shimming the tail-piece is a result of improper neck angle!

Hi Kris, The weight specs in US lbs on the mule run approx 0.625 stone (9 lbs) and above according to their forum. Lawd lawdy, Harriet Wow yeah that's heavy! My 31 Duolian weighs just under six and one half pounds, all the best sounding Nationals I've tried have all been lighter. Kenny,,,,,,,

My 1st thoughts are does it have an internal battery in the pre-amp??? Lee Hi Lee, I don’t think so. The Highlander has an external power supply that provides phantom power via the jack socket through a stereo cable from an external battery box. I don’t think there is any kind of internal battery. Best, Pat Yes the first year they came out they had an internal battery, not sure what year that was but I changed one out for somebody to the newer version,,,,, Kenny,,,,,,,,,,

This one has had some very un-professional work done to it! check the nut position!fingerboard has been changed and nut moved toward the bridge who knows what scale it is now and how the intonation is!

Harriet, generally they are shimed from underneath with two shims going opposite each other and at the end of the stick, this is how I was taught to do it,if you preferred to not glue it,,,,,,,,,,,,
