Deuce: Of course it is possible to play a version of Love In Vain in open G tuning. However, Robert Johnson played it in G standard. If you want to get as close to the original sound, you'll play it in G standard. If you want to do a cover version that doesn't sound like Robert Johnson, you can play a version in any key and in any tuning. That's perfectly OK, just not the way the source musician (in this case Robert Johnson, mickeyz) played it.

This thread starts out with frustration at not being able to finger a particular turnaround in Spanish tuning. Listen to the experts. Blueshome and Snakehips have said that this turnaround is easier in G standard. That's why RJ played it in G standard. Can anyone cite an instance where the turnaround was ever played in Spanish by a source musician? Don't think so.

Sadly it does appear to be true. Jack's website now has a notification, and BBC News are running the story.

Yes Snakehips, a curry hour is incorporated into the proceedings, and afterwards, if weather permits, a pint and a tune in the Pear Tree beer garden!
