Many thanks bod, that was great! When I try to see the whole prog Aunty Beeb's i-player unfortunately tells me that it won't serve content to my IP which isn't in Britain, but the clip you reference does play.. ;-) I'll boot up a copy of firefox with TOR (an IP spoofer that masks one's IP)and see if I can view it that way, which I have used to watch Wimbledon in the past..

Brian, After blowing the pic up a bit, I think(?) it says 'Reg D 1935' but that's mainly a (vaguely) intelligent guess on my part! It would be great to have a definite year if it is indeed that. C

Michael, That's a space for the ashtray and ciggy holder.. Saves spearing it on a string end! ;-)

Folks, 3 forum members have contacted me privately regarding recent unsatisfactory dealings with Lenny. I have left messages on Lenny's phone but he never gets back to me. I have also contacted various friends in the USA reso world, and without quoting names I'm afraid that as a result of the responses received I can't personally recommend purchasing anything from him currently. A shame and hopefully things will get sorted out.

BTW Acoustic Guitar magazine had an issue, Spring 1013, focused on the ukulele. It included a "Blues on the Uke" lesson by Fred Sokolow. I never saw the article/issue, anyone here got a copy?

Just need some spiders to complete the meal! ;-) If your neck is just the right length.. But if it's a bit short (as several were).. Yummy! ;-) (BTW, does anyone have a picture of the spider with a missing center leg and web which sat around the electric pick-up coils in the electric pu versions? If so may we have a copy please?)

Here's a blue ukulele! ;-) This is a beautifully hand-painted & restored National Triolian uke. When I found it some 20 years ago, it had been stripped of it's paint and then chrome(!) plated very badly. The chrome was lifting off and could literally be picked off with a fingernail!. So rather than try and reproduce the original paintwork, Steve Evans of Beltona took it apart and had the chrome stripped using reverse-electroplating. Ali Allen, a set painter and designer in Leeds, UK (who designed the Beltona logo) then hand painted it, finally Steve Evans then rebuilt it. Thanks Steve and Ali!!

Micahel, Any chance you can give this a thread of it's own please? C. Hi michael, I've got a 33 duolian which needs a refret and saddle replacement.I have been told by an american luthier that this is not possible to do on a 33 due to the fretboard material.is this true?.i live in ireland where there is no luthier who is experienced at repairs to vintage nationals as far as i know.i would appreciate if you or anyone else on this forum could point me in the right direction.im new to this forum. regards, Derry. It is possible that it has a compressed laminated paper fingerboard, did the luthier actually see it? National used many different fingerboards, the paper was a short lived experiment, but odd boards/materials turn up in an 'oops we've run out of fingerboards what have we left lying about so we can fill this order' type of way. Who was the luthier BTW? If it is paper, is it de-laminating (highly likely) then a replacement wooden fingerboard is probably the way to go. Dave King would be able to help if you can ship it to England.. Colin

Mark, Many thanks! I actually have the 1970 Strum & Drum catalogue (or, rather the first few front and back pages, the middle ones are missing, including the one you've scanned p15!) While googling, I found this article on the founder and history of the Strum & Drum company, I expect you've seen it, but it might be of interest to our forum readers, some of it was new to me! www.myrareguitars.com/vintage-1968-noble-eg-686-2ht-electric-guitarAloha Colin

Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't bumped into Sofie Reed before, but was impressed enough after watching this to buy the CD just now ;-) Great voice and harp playing, then add the slide dulcimer on top!! Simple but very effective. Mahalo ;-)

Stevie Ray Vaughn certainly suffered for his art! e&oe Didn't SRV play in 'standard', but with all strings tuned down one pitch, ie with D# on the bottom/top?

Folks, Please PM me via the forum, and update me. I know Len fairly well, visited with him only a few months ago and didn't get the impression his business was in trouble in any way. (Although I hear a rumour that Don Young/National Reso will no longer supply him with their instruments.) Once I hear from you about the state of your grievances I will be happy to phone him and 'bend his ear' as best I can!
Aloha
Colin
