Hello, Here's a great instrument for your interest: an Advanced Jumbo with Adirondack top & indian rosewood back & sides from the Gibson custom shop. It was made in march 2013, it's not a first hand, but has been loved & played... Excellent condition, no scratch or chip to signal. K&K Pure mini pick-up is installed & it comes with its orignal case & papers. I'm in France, knows how to ship a valued instrument and ask £1999 (2300€) for this one -shipment in charge of the buyer- Please, use PM for more information. Here's a video (not very true in matter of sound, it was done with a camera) & some pictures:

It reminds me a Captain Beefheart's tune: another great sounding find ! I like to use an unwound 3rd, some DR Pure Blues string with round cores are available in .012/.053...

Hello,
I've got a 12 frets to the body version (the braces positions are different) with a new fingerboard & an added truss rod...
Here's some videos:
Here's a short video in french by the luthier who worked on this one:
These guitars are almost as powerfull as resonators, with their own tone: great for jazz & ragtime !!

Since the 17th September 2004 I have written 13,000 posts. That averages 930 per year. I think maybe I should get out more.... Shine On Michael Hello, I understand your last statement Michael, and I can only speak from my point of view: I think that the success of this forum is essentially based on your involvment, your reactivity, the code of ethics and your closeness of our passion for resonator instruments, slide playing and... ... music ! I'm not clairvoyant, but I guess it could evolve too, just because the base of the structure seems well... Another point is the english language that is giving an international entry to this space (and I'm french, yes ). That said, I don't have the feeling that we come here hazardously & the line of confidence between your interests and our common passion has always been clarified in this area, it's not a detail ! Some administrators/moderators are also there and it's for the best simply because the fact to count on several people is safer for any community than relying on only one... ... So thank you for what has already been done & offered through this forum, thanks to all members too, I hope that the information here will be available for a long time & I'll be back soon ! Alexandre

The six sets I've ordered finally arrived today (France), also two weeks after the email of sending notification from Neil... ... As I've been back to work today, it will take me extra time to test those fresh sets in good conditions !
Can't wait to try the 0.015/0.056 on the kay archtop (with soundhole) of the 30's tuned to standard but one or two tones below : with its dry tone & great reverb, it should brings people out in gooseflesh on a track like "in the pines" if I play it th good way !

Hello there, I've just ordered three sets of each gauge & should receive them at my coming back from holidays... Good news, I'll have a little more free time to test them as it should. Pretty excited for this new opportunity that I was waiting for since I was positively impressed with the Martin monel strings on my resonator guitars...
All my thankfull thoughts to PD, Newtone strings, MM forum & members involved in this initiative... ... now it's real !

Hello, Yes, fiddle-edge Dobro models (M.32, 35... any steel/brass/german silver as I guess) can host spider-bridge & dobro cone and have a kind of lip in the sound well that allow them to get a single-cone. We talked about it there, and in my memory nobody really tried a single-cone in such a model... ... I have one M.32 and it just sounds sweet like it is !

Hello, I appreciate monel strings on flattops & would be interested in round core monel strings, especially .012/.054. If it can become real, I'd be curious to test a few sets on different guitars... Thanks for the idea !

Also, every 3pc Triolians I've seen in pictures, except Alexandres's 184w, lack the dot at the end of the body, so they have two screws instead of three I guess. 184w is maybe not (completely) an exception: yes, there is a centered dot at the end of the fretboard, BUT it seems there's no screw underneath... After the work done by Mike, it appears that this last dot wasn't removed... ... I cannot be 100% sure of that, but it's my own deduction, and understand gentlemen that I won't unscrew this neck right now for the science. Sorry.

How can you spot the difference between a two piece and a three piece body without dismantling the guitar? 1/ your empiric method concerning the side transition is the most evident... 2/ a little (dentist) mirror trough one f-hole can make you see the soldering between top & side... 3/ the serial number can also gives you an good idea: all triolians (P & w series) under #500 seems to be concerned (thanks Mark MAKIN's job !) as all the triolians with bakelite neck. Duolians seems not to be concerned as they appeared after 1930 & this specific process. Please guys, correct me if I'm wrong in any way...

1928triolian, despite the quality of the video, we can feel a great tone for sure ! That said, it seems to apply to some 2pc Triolians too One that point Hugues, I can only talk about the exemplar that I play... I only had in hand one 3 pieces body exemplar !! I guess the tone is not only a matter of pieces to realize the body, resonators instruments needs an adaptated set up to offer their best. I know a member of a french forum playing #12w since a few years now, but never had the opportunity to meet him & play them consecutively... The fact that I've found a 3 pieces body exemplar was completely hazardous, but I'm thankfull to play an instrument with such a tone ! ... and it's finally all about that, for sure !

Hello from France, Hugues... I just discovered your post and it takes me back to my encounter with 184w... ... Something like seven years ago I've sent it quickly to Mike after receiving it: a neck stick scoliosis has been fixed & it became a hell of a guitar (tonefull AND playable)! This 3 pieces body is not always so easy to control (as they got some much volume, reverb, sustain & growl to offer), but what a deep & full tone !
Here are some little vids I've made after receiving it from Mike... The playing is not spectacular & the video/sound quality is very poor, but check that tone while played softly without picks...
Best wishes, your new guitar will surely makes you happy very soon !!

Here we are two well-known musicians ready to present their second album made with four hands...
With this first track, they may have a potential "classic" of the blues... ... At the least, it's a good one for me :

The oldest is a 12 string guitar probably made by Gretsch (as Neil Harpe once precised me) between 1915 & 1920...
... and I realize that the newest ones are a Supro Belmont (resoglas body) electric and a Harmony 1270 12 string acoustic, both made in the 60's.
Between those ones I play a bunch of acoustics (arch or flat tops) and resonators from the end of the 20's to the early 40's.
If it was a kind of unofficial, it seems to confirm that we've got a serious vintage bug around here...
At last, the most important is the thrill to play, as was signifying that famous quotation (translated from french): the bottle does not matter as much as the drunkenness.
