Here it is... I've got this guitar for a few weeks now, but as it is my first pre-war Dobro, I've got some questions about it... I don't have the use to open a coverplate if the guitar sounds good, but in this case, I did it just because there was a fair amount of dust on the cone... I let you check : I don't regret to have opened it because I've also retired a fair amount of rust on the lip that support the cone... It was surely not good to help a normal vibration of the cone, I assume... By the way, it was the first time I was dealing with a stamped cone, and I have to say that it's in good shape and it's sounding pretty well too, after a whole soft-cleaning action... Concerning my main question, I let you check this picture first: Could we have here a "double" soundwell, I mean able to fit a 10.5 spider cone as a 9.5 biscuit cone ?? The first reserve I have is that two screws are located right in the middle of the inferior lip, so that it could damage the lip of a biscuit cone, but I assume that if we screw them a little bit more they will be at the same level of the lip... I didn't got any measure because I was too hurried to play this guitar, but if anyone of you could give any element about my question, I'll be glad !!

Thanks Michael ! It's pretty funny because I"m almost sure that it's the original cone & spider-bridge of this M-32, simply because when I've opened it a few weeks back, all the details where combining for this alternative (no chips in the paint around the coverplate's screws, a lot of rust on the screws which were also intact of any screwing action, etc...).
As the guitar serial number (L +4digit) refers to a 1937 model made by Regal, I wonder if they still had stamped cones in stock, but maybe no more short legged spider ?! I guess it could... In fact, the saddles of the spider are looking as originals too, so I'm not convinced at all that anybody put the hands in this guitar before me, since it came out of the factory...
I'll open a topic about this guitar for I have other questions about it...

Thank you Mark ! I guess it helps, so let's check if I understand well now... If I consider your explanation, the cone pictured here should be a stamped cone with lugs but with a "normal-sized" spider... ... Right ??

Hello. I'm interested in this post for I'm playing a Dobro M-32 (seems to be made by Regal in 1937) with an original stamped cone. Being french I'm just not sure to understand exactly what means a "lug" concerning any cone... ... a stamped cone with lugs and a short-legged spider like the Bashful Brother Oswald one. Here are two pictures of the cone of this M-32, so that somebody could tell me if it's effectively a cone with lugs (& short-leeged spider too ??) or not : Thank you for the help...

Hello there, I'm new to this forum that I've known a few years back. I just want to add this picture of a proud reverend (Garrett seems to be is name) with his wife (and her bible, I assume) and his W serie Triolian (14 fret out of the body)... This picture was on sale on the bay a few weeks ago... I play a similar exemplar so that I was well surprised to see this photo !
