DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS GUY!! He a very dishonest man. If you are having trouble with Lenny Gerthoffer do the same as I did. Perhaps we can get this guy out of business and in prison where he belongs and that he won't be able to scam anyone else! Quoting MM a few weeks back... At this point in the discussion, having been mentioned by Waffle regarding the policies of this forum, my silence would be more conspicuous than my words. It is always so difficult when this type of thread appears on the forum and I ask myself every time, do I let it run or do I close/delete it? There are clearly some problems with this company and people need a place to share their grievances and experiences. If I close or delete the thread I would feel disloyal to MM Forum members and to the people who have experienced problems in dealing with this company. I have absolutely no axe to grind whatsoever, as I have never had any business dealings with Vintage Nationals or Hot Rod Steel Guitars. I am not enjoying reading the posts, but this is a meeting place for many resonator guitarists, so for the time being I will not delete or edit this thread. Shine On Michael I don't think 'we' should be involved in "get(ting) this guy out of business and in prison where he belongs". TT

Update on a post I posted on Nov. 24, 2015 about Lenny Gerthoffer of Hot rod steel guitars. In that post I said I ordered a resonator guitar and never received that guitar. In Nov. 2015 I asked for a refund. I never got that refund. On Dec. 7,2015 Lenny sent a e-mail to the BBB of Santa Barbara saying he was going to send me my refund later that week. No refund. On Jan. 6, 2016 Lenny again told the BBB of Santa Barbara that he was going to refund my money. Again no refund. Numerous e-mails and phone calls to Mr. Gerthoffer went unanswered or ignored. On Jan. 20, 2016 I called the District Attoney of Santa Barbara, "consumer mediation dept." and they were well aware of Lenny Gerthoffer due to numerous complaints. They were successful in getting everyone's money owed to them and said I would get my money back also. On Jan 27,2016 I received a money order for my full refund of $1015.00! In my post of Nov. 2015 I stated that Lenny should be put in prison and out of business. I was angry at that time and I apologize for my remarks. However I believe if it wasn't for the Distric Attorney of Santa Barbara "consumer mediation dept." I would have never received my refund. I hope this update will help anyone who has had problems with Lenny Gerthoffer. I also hope Mr. Gerthoffer will use better business practices in the future.

Derektov, I don't think you were out of line at all when you said he should be in prison. Just because you eventually got your money back, think of all the people that haven't. I can't understand why he's allowed to continue his scam when the District Attorney knows what's going on. BTW, I noticed Gerthoffer's back on Ebay.

gingergirl, I thought I was to harsh when I said Lenny Gerthoffer should be in prison. However you make a great point on how he has treated myself and others past and future, so perhaps I wasn't that harsh. You also make a good point that the District attorney should not allow Mr. Gerthoffer to continue scamming people. The business he has is an "unregulated" business. Which means only when someone makes a complaint will they step in. You are correct that he shouldn't be in business. Yes, he is on ebay. Many complaints are from those who bought from Mr. Gerthoffer through ebay. Thanks for your input and interesting points.

The man is plainly trading dishonestly and I wonder how many folks are out of pocket but have not made a fuss and got refunds. He should not be trading.

To clarify, having never had any dealings with Lenny, its not mine or any other forum members who are not involved' business to get him in prison. That's down to the individuals concerned and the police etc. Whether I or anyone else think he deserves to be in prison is a different thing. TT

I believe that Lenny truly intended to run an honorable business because I believe he truly loves, like most of us, the vibe of the Nationsl guitar. I think he got caught up in the belief that the economy was expanding and that the party would go on forever. Instead he is likely tied up with major mortgage and other expenses that go with persuing the American Dream lifestyle.
That notwithstanding, he needs to be held accountable for his transgressions against customers who trusted him in trade...

But there comes a point when you know full well that you are behaving dishonestly. That point must have been reached long ago now.

Whilst it is helpful information to know who is not good to deal with and I feel 100% sorry for anyone who gets a bad deal.
I think it spoils the Forum discussions to continually run this thread.
There are other Social Media routes to make these comments.
I have no affiliation at all with the business concerned.

I bought a 12 fret steel body: basically a Duolian. Didn't ship for a month. When it got here, it was the wrong guitar. I've phoned, emailed, got no reply. I sent it back and am hoping to get the right guitar. It was shipped with no insurance, and instructions to just leave it at my address without a signature. If I lived in a row home a half mile from here, and a guitar was just left on the porch, it would be gone in 5 minutes. Now that I've spent the money, I see a lot of posts where the wrong guitar was sent. WTF? I'm thinking now that I should have gone with Republic.

Just want to make sure that everyone knows that there are still issues with this seller. You can read my prior posts in this thread. Sent Lenny a guitar to sell in late 2014 (which he did) and more than 2 years later I'm still trying to get him to pay me. He has sent partial payments but Lenny still owes me $1,500. I haven't heard from him since February of 2016.
