Hi Folks. Just out of curiosity/nosiness. Why have you folks chosen the names you go by on the forum?

I call myself "blind_delta_blues_snake_owl_boy" because it is so bluesy and just reeks of the Mississippi Delta. Oh wait, no I don't.

Isn't this one of the dreaded lists?
I picked a name using one of those random name generators? I sifted through quite a few until I decided subtoxin was the best I could come up with. When I go by my real name on forums, people assume it's a web moniker for Larrivee guitars.

Hi Folks. Subtoxin... I was hoping to that names members had chosen would begin discussions on other Blues artists etc. When I see the names, I try to think what does it mean to the person who has chosen it, what does it mean to them personally? I see names like Bluesbear,Honeyboy, and many others, and I think, does it remind them of someone, someone they have high regard for? But if members don't want to contribute, then fair, fine, fantastic and all respects. When I see the name Bluesbear, I think often of Bob(the bear)Hite. I am sure I am not the only one who has thought what the names mean, what or whom do they refer too. Sorry if you or others theink it is one of these 'dreaded lists'. Was meant as a way of sharing of moods, or to stimulate further discussion.
Take care and best wishes always.
Regards.

Sorry Gouranga, no offense intended at all. It was only meant as a light hearted joke. You may have noticed I myself replied on most of the past 'list' posts.

Hi
well thats a simple enough answer , Bear has been my nickname for years it comes from the time i boxed as a cruiserweight when i was in the army ...the blues part comes from my love of anything blues like
years later i join this forum, my daughters were having a giggle i asked "what name should i use? to them , they replied the bluesbear ...
so bluesbear is really just a silly name that my daughters call me sometimes thats all nothing more

Hi there !
I got "Snakehips" from my band of the time - about 15 years back and more. We were a 7 piece blues/soul band and we didn't have a name for ourselves on our first gig. At the end of our first successful gig, the band were all sat down at a big round table with the lead guitarist's Dad, while I was at the bar, getting in a round of drinks for everyone. Just as the drinks all piled up on a big tray I felt a shiver down my spine, as if people were talking about me. I turned around and looked across the pub and all the band were pointing at me with huge grins on their faces. What the hell have I done, I thought ? !!!!
Got over to the table and I said "What ? What ?" Lead Guitarist - "We've got a name for the band" Me - "Uh huh ?" Band all together "Snakehips" !!!!! Me - "Oh what ! What you guys talking about ?"
They explained that with all the dancing (slipping and sliding like a snake) I do while singing (my feet going like James Brown) and my hips gyrating (makes me cringe now !) the guitarist's Dad thought it was an apt name for me and the band loved it AND they were not gonna take no for an answer !!! Oh crap, I said, I'll never live this down !
I stuck in my surname and added "and the Lounge Lizards" to make it look cooler : "Snakehips O'Donnell and the Lounge Lizards" - I just thought people seeing that on a gig poster would just HAVE to check us out - and it worked.
Of course, I now like to think of my self more as "the artist formally known as Snakehips" !!!
Tried to get rid of the Snakehips name for a few years BUT the annual Dundee blues festival "Blues Bonanza" kept on billing my solo gigs as Snakehips O'Donnell so I thought it was too late to go on changing it now.
Sometimes, when as a Duo with my bandmate Allan, we gig as "Snakehips and Prof Scratchy" or even "The Ritchie and Scratchy Show" !!

It's my name!
Or at least used to be... a nickname bestowed upon me at school back in the 1970s, what pretty much everyone called me for years. A few years ago an old schoolmate emailed me out of the blue, called me 'bod - had an effect darn close to time travel ;D- the week after that I needed a name for a[nother] forum, it seemed the obvious choice, then I used it again here...
(Inititally it was "Oddbod Junior," after the character in Carry On Screaming - in short, I was 5' 11" when I started senior school! - but soon shortened to 'Oddbod, then 'bod. The avatar image of course comes from an entirely different character "Bod" but since I lost my hair years ago and tend to wear baggy T shirts it seemed kinda appropriate...)
