Well, although my log-in name here is my own, i receive a few questions regarding the company name, and the same log-in name i use on a couple of other slide-related forums. Back in the mists of time i worked in the accident repair division of a major car dealership, and my boss at this time hailed from Romford, Essex. To say he kept dropping himself in the 'sticky stuff' most days was an understatement - and yours truly constantly saved his backside from the wrath of the directors ;D. Whenever he found out i'd covered for him i got a call in my office informing me "....you are a Diamond Geezer moi san...a Diamond Geezer!...." and it's stuck with me ever since, so thanks Bill Cuthbertson - wherever you are . Slide On! Ian.

I originally registered my radio amateur callsign. It never conflicts with any forum user names so I go for it every time. Of course, it means jack to every one else and is not even catchy or relevant so I changed it. On reflection, I'm not sure that was a good idea. Call me what you like- just make sure to call me in for dinner ;<D

Maxx England - a pair of motorcycle gloves with the brand name Maxx, and the cross on St George on the shoulders of my motorcycle leathers. Sort of fitted when I was called Maxx England by somebody at work.
Elsewhere, the Reverend Ole Ding Ding 98, this was a deliberate cocking of snooks at people in my racing formula who were becoming Excessively Serious Bunnies at the time. The team I was in was the Gay Nazi Dance Band. Can't think why we struggled for sponsors.

Mine comes from my given names but originates from a school I taught in. When I started there there were no fewer than three people called Gerry on the staff: myself, another bloke and a lady. To distinguish us in staff meetings the Head would add the initial of our surnames. Collectively, needless to say, we were known as the Gerry 'At-Trick... ;D
Cheerily,

As the Ting Tings said - It could be because I have a fondness for early Pulp and Sci-fi covers. Unreadable pap with interesting images that alternate as my screen savers.
Kelly Frears who drew 'Alfred E. Newman', also fabulously decorated many paperbacks with pictures of people in primary, and more rarely secondary, coloured romper suits. They pointed at things, Stars, Volcanoes Extra Terrestrial Vehicles, Domed Cities. Usually against a dark or strangely coloured sky, the characters often point in one direction and look back at their companions. Sometimes they look and point the same way. The books have great eye catching titles too 'The Rock Beings from Calypso 3', 'Fiends of Saturn', 'The Woman who lived for ever', 'Escape to Earth & The Clock Paradox'. Many just feature the heroes names often with a 'the' to prefix his job title.
In our everyday We don't often meet people with a 'the' in their name. I know that almost every day I see Dave 'the' postie, but that's not quite so romantic somehow but .....
.....I guess that if I was an amoeba I would think that many of the things that he can do, as a human being, were pretty amazing compared to floating about in a glass slide all day. As I I have little in common with super intelligent White Stallions, Porpoises, Alsatians & Collie Dogs, (remember Viz's Black Bag) and Bush Kangaroos. Most ants have pretty astounding 'super powers' but I guess they just take them for granted too.......
I guess I could have as easily been AlberttheAmazingShrinkingTapeWorm GerometheKillerRobot or at a push NicholastheInvisibleNewt but they didn't have had the same ring to them.
In all truth it just amused me to be PercytheWonderAnt
Cheers

Mine's a tongue in cheek monika, assumed with a nod towards the real steadyrolling man, ole RJ himself. A pity that one cannot assume his talent as easily.

This is an amusing and interesting thread. I was a bit worried that we were heading into 'list' and 'not about music' territory, but it has always interested me as to how and why people have their usernames. Unfortunately my username is on my birth certificate, passport & driving license! Shine On, Lightning001 Koareso Conehead Divingduck88 MichaelKnife ....etc

Hi there !
Getting more off topic but (on the point about parent-given names) I thought you guys would get a chuckle out of this : At my school, there was a guy in my class called Alan Nutter. Just imagining the post he must receive, to a Mr A. Nutter !! If you think that that is bad, there was two brothers at my school - one in the year below me, one in the year above. Their surname was Ness. Their parents called their two boys Andrew and Peter. I can't believe their parents DIDN'T realise how bad that would look, written on a letter address. Unbelievable, but 100% true !!!

Is it OK to continue?? (instead of carry on) It was interesting and there are still more interesting names out there. Some of us were sliding, when we should have been picking.
