Rodriguez was my nickname at college. Then one day I was telling a friend about how they say a lot of early blues players used names that were disability-fruit-president, e.g. Blind Lemon Jefferson (personally I actually don't know any other examples!). The conversation spiralled out of control, as they tend to do, and my full nickname is Lamename Cheesestring Rodriguez. Which we thought was hilarious at the time. So now it is the basis for most of my online personas
There, surely nothing stupider than that!

Just a historical point - BLJ was lemon because his skin tone was referred to as high yellow. But that doesn't explain about "Little Cherry Ball" that Skip James loved more than himself?

Well, When I started work the girls didn't want to call me William (I don't know why) and I didn't have a nickname as far as I knew, so they said they'd call me Bill. I've stuck to that for anyone who has met me through work ever since.
I would be far too embarassed to call myself after a talented Blues man or the like.

Toom - part of the name of one of the most infamous bars in St Pauli (downtown Hamburg, near the Reeperbahn) - Toom Peerstall. It was incredible 10-15 years ago. You could have been in a direputable part of New Orleans. Now, just an ordinary bar. But the name lives on. RIP Sydney, a coloured drag artiste from Cape Town, who was barperson here, having worked in showbiz with Sandy Shaw, in younger days.

'fibrebundle'.... Well, it is an abstract mathematical object. I am a physicist (was, till I started playing......now I am an amateur guitarist and an amateur physicist!), and at one point of time, I was using these abstract mathematical objects in my research.

Post by Mairena Red on Dec 26, 2009 11:39:49 GMT
Hi y'all, Mine's pretty obvious as I live in Mairena and have red hair (though some of it has inexplicably turned white ). The blues is littered with Reds (Tampa Red, Louisiana Red etc) so I thought it had a bluesy feel. In flamenco circles I'm known as El Peli de Mairena (literally the redhead from Mairena) All the best Joe (aka Mairena Red)

Thanks all. It has been very interesting, but there is still many more out there of interest also. Makes me wonder how many of the Blues men got their names...
Regards and seasons greetings.

Gouranga. Well it was the name of a band I played with some years back. They played the Festivals in Europe. Then I also played for some time with the Gouranga Powered band. The name Gouranga means.. The golden one who gives the highest happiness of pure original divine love. (far from where I am at). But the name got tagged onto me after some festivals and gigs in Hungary and South Africa, where after the gigs people just started calling me Gouranga. We used to do free gigs at orphanages in the old communist countries and when folks asked what my name was, other band members would tell them Gouranga. Even when I am busking on the streets in Edinburgh,so many people just shout Gouranga when they see me. I was also the menace behind, the 'Call out Gouranga be Happy' thing that went on for years in the UK and over the internet etc. When I registered on this forum, I tried using other names like, Bill, but they we already taken. My legal name is Balabhadra das Adhikary, but use the name Bill for ease for others. I was actually one of the leaders of the Hare Krishna movement until moving on about five years ago. Sorry to bore everyone, and did not want to blow my own trumpet or bagpipes. But you did ask guys. That's the basics. I use my instruments for what some folks call mantra rock. Gouranga my friends be happy!!
Yours.
Gouranga (That which gives the highest happiness) Not me, I'm a pain in the butt as many will already know....

Hi Gourango......... must admit just looked at this thread for first time. How I arrived at this name , well it has got nothing to do with 'Growling' or being 'Grumpy' at all, if I can remember Michaels must have been one of the first forums I joined , way back when I first got my computer and I can remember being taken aback when asked what username .......username what the hells that ....... for some reason Growler was the first thing that came into my head On other forums I am known as Karlsliderman 1950, Karlo and Resonatorrat I hope that clears things up for you , I requested you some time back, When are you going to post a video of you busking. Regards Growler
