I am revisiting some of the first songs I started to play on slide guitar. Peg-leg Howell’s Georgia Skin Game and Robert Johnson’s Come on in My Kitchen. Come on in My Kitchen is a very simple song , no chords to worry about ( ok, it’s an extended 8 bar, with the usual changes but they are just implied when Johnson plays them). And most of the work is on the top couple of frets. But it’s all about the details. My friends band now does a version which sticks in a full 5 chord, sacrilege! Pete Robert’s recording of this song is so beautiful, it’s almost like a ballet. The phrasing, tempo, pitch…. Perfection. The way he sings it is like early jazz singers in the 20s. It is an extraordinary piece of music, as are many of his recordings. My favourite covers of this song are Delaney & Bonnie and friends, with Duane Allman, and Cassandra Wilson’s wonderful take on it. I like those because they’re not trying to mimic RJ’s masterpiece. Shine On Michael

It's a wonderful piece of music. Let's hear it, Steve. I think it should be called Albert Ross. 😜 Shine On Michael

Totally left field here but this song by the king of the Salford Blues has always been a favourite for me with some of the best lyrics ever set to music. I’m playing it asa straight driving blues with a fair bit of improv. Shave, Sh*t, shower and a shoe shine, everyone looks like Ernest Borgnine. Mrs T

Going back over some old favourite I found this one by a John Cooper Clarke lookalike. Never played that outro before but am getting close on the reso.

Pedestrian I know but I’m working up rolling and tumbling blues, dust my broom and keep your lamp trimmed and burning. There is nothing pedestrian about those songs and there is nothing to be embarrassed about saying that you play them. The reasons these and other songs have been staples of generations of blues players' repertoires is because they are so good. The originals are masterpieces and that is why everyone plays them. Here's one I made earlier.... Shine On Michael

Hi there !
Tonight, I was mostly playing Mississippi Fred McDowell style, as best I can manage so far. Actually, I made the video to demo the latest three Diamond Bottleneck German Glass slides I got today, and one I've had for a while. I totally love Ian McWee's German Glass slides.
Anyway, I'm not sure the video does the bottleneck slides justice - as it was only recorded with my iPhone SE (mk2) and it will probably sound rubbish through most speakers, like it does on my laptop !!
But ........ that's what I was playing on my reso right now (eh, about 90mins ago !)

Ha ha !!!
Yes, of course ! Lewis does seem to nudge Ian McWee along to get my slides finished & posted. AND when that doesn't work, Lewis sells me some he decides he doesn't want - and then within days he asks me send back any ones I don't want, as he has decided he shouldn't have sold them, ha ha !!
