I don’t like the idea of an unprotected bridge, it will have some sort of cover. Pete

It grows, at the moment it’s a little curved, may flatten the top a little. Could do with some close up picks of an original ( plenty on pics of new MM s ) so I can make it look ‘right’.

It’s now a little flatter . I won’t be soldering it on until the neck is fitted, I might have to make it taller if my neck angle is a little steep. Pete

Don't forget to cut a slot for the saddle to poke through !!!

II thought the bridge could just sit on cover plate, it would save the cost of a spider and cone.
. I guess it would sound better with a cone, so I will cut the slot

The cover plate also went ‘under the knife’ ( the handrest won’t go on until the last minute in case it needs to be a little higher than I have made it) ,the neckstick is ready( almost) . Pete

With the body done I can fit the neck, though first I need to see where the nut is . As I am making a new neck and using a standard spider, I can have the 14th fret lie up with the body ( unlike ‘ proper ‘ fiddle’ edge guitars) . A 25 1/2” scale is about right Pete

Am getting back to work ( after knee op) and have fitted neck to neckstick.

I now need to decide where the frets are going. Instead of measuring I put a string on and tuned to pitch. But there are no m/head holes, so I have to clamp an old headstock onto the unfinished neck. I then put an old finger board of the scale length I have chosen on the neck and move it about till it’s in tune. ( with the cone in the centre of the well, there is some wriggle room on MMs fiddle edge so I can fine tune later)

Disaster! Just started to carve the neck and found a tiny shrinkage crack on the heal. Most of the crack will cut out, but here will be a small bit on the heal that will need filling. The maple is very strong and the imperfection won’t effect the structural integrity but I think I might have to give it a colour to cover it. Onwards and upwards............ Pete I should have gone to Specsavers.

This is exactly what I would have wanted to get also! Any more test bodies around?! :-)

Big changes are happening here! My knee op stopped me doing much this summer, so my neck is only half done. Michael has just had a few offset spiders delivered ( he didn’t have any spare last year when I started the project) This means I can now use the ‘test’ neck It has a few issues, after all it was not meant to go on a guitar. The neckstick is a little offset and not perfectly square with the neck but these things can be got over. Go most of the fitting done in an afternoon! Pete

Neck fitted and time to screw in on . One slight problem is the position of the finger board screws. These go through the f/b into a wooden plate. They help to keep the neck in position. Because of it has a shorter scale the 14/15 fret screws ( covered by pearl dot eventually) come very close to the edge of the plate. I may have to use fine nuts and bolts on these 2 holes Pete
