The soundhole at the back is a bad idea as most of the sound ends up in your jumper. It's cool on 1950s National 1133s and 1033s, but it is not a great thing to do. The mandolin-style holes are your best option. Shine On Michael Thank you, I was leaning towards that to be honest. It’s hidden and like you say, makes the most sense.

Still waiting on some parts. They are taking a while due to the UK postal strikes. I managed to get the control and pickup route done.

Hello all, I decided to take some influence on how the old resonators are put together. This neck is attached using a more modern approach using threaded inserts and m4 bolts. These will be hidden with dots like the unused to, to keep the clean acoustic look on the back of the guitar.

Side dots…so easy to rush and make them look messy, especially the 12th fret. And ish the part that the player will be looking at most.

This may divide some people…I aged the hardware on it. 😬

Neck carving and finalising the heel transition for that more traditional acoustic look. .

Body all oiled! Love a nice piece of walnut. Next onto fret dressing and making the nut.

Sorry for lack of posts but been doing the boring but necessary stuff like fret dressing and waiting for parts. But, exciting day…got some strings on today… I love how it sounds acoustically, so can’t wait to get the pickup installed and wired up.

Thanks to pete1951 for this idea! I’ve drilled holes deeper than where the cone sits. This allows air from behind the cone to come out through the front, this should make its acoustic sound even better and also help to make it a little louder. 🤞👍

Hi there! Have you removed parts of the well ledge that the cone sits on ?? Yea you maybe can’t quite see it, but the holes I’ve drilled goes a bout 6-8mm deeper than where the cone sits.

Omg !
So parts of the rim of the cone won’t be touching the well ? They will be suspended in mid air ?
So, all the string pressure on the cone rim will be increased in areas where it does contact ?
This REALLY seems a crazy idea, destined to crush your resonator cone. Sure, let sound from under the cone somehow exit the guitar top BUT mot this crazy way !!!
I’m sure Pete didn’t mean for you to cut sections of the cone ledge off ?!!! Pete said “On this mandolin I had holes linking the top and bottom, the cone sat on a 6mm ply ring”.. Will yours have a ring of plywood for the cone to sit on ?
