Hi All,
I'm after an acoustic or two for a project. If any of you guys have some old acoustics hanging around that need work. I have a few weeks of holiday and would like to undertake a project. Not asking for anything free, have cash to pay for the right guitar.
I'm based in Manchester but happy to travel to pick up guitars.
All the best Kieran

Try your local charity shops. I just picked up a Gear4Music dreadnought in superb cosmetic and playing condition for £25 in one of ours locally. It's going to be converted to a BJW 9 stringer jobbie.

Can you be a little more specific? I have various broken guitars ( nylon and steel string) some with busted headstocks some (very cheap ones) in need of various love and attention. Pete

Hello Kieran. I’m in the process of moving and have a few old guitars I’m probably going to move on. I have a Rex Aragon archtop that needs a bit done to it, a Yamaha steel string acoustic, and probably some others in the loft I’ve forgot about. However I’m in Suffolk so a bit far from you.

Pete Hi Pete, I would like a steel string guitar. Ideally it would be an older model that was constructed relatively well but needs work. PD - yes I will try the local charity stores, I've found them to be less successful recently.

Hi Kristo, this sounds absolutely perfect. Suffolk is not too far for me as I'd be happy to make a few days of it. I will message you.

Hello again. As well as the Rex Aragon I have a Yamaha FG-140, a Pearl River Classical and a Prince Classical. I also found a Westone Thunder electric if of interest? Cheers, Kris.

Lew - The Yamaha is all yours, everyone could do with a project . Pete - am I right in remembering you are located in Cambridge? What is the burst floating bridge flat top in the middle?

Yes, Cambridge. That is an Eastern European cheaply made steel string. Mostly beech and birch ply. Need a neck reset to make it sound like a very cheap plywood guitar.
I had it earmarked for an electric conversion. With a very thin bridge ( and the tailpiece screwed to the top) the action on the flat neck is ok. I was going to put a big block of wood inside and a humbucker. I would take it electric jam nights and hopefully make a Les Pauli’s sound. I had one before that I did this too and it was fun to play. Thank you very much everyone. I am now sorted. Am returning an old Guild to its former glory. Neck reset, refinish top (wouldn't choose to do this but the previously owner sanded it), at least a partial refret, fix broken neck heel..
Good luck with the electric conversion Pete, sounds like a fun one to take to open mics.

"Former glory" kind of implies an older (pre Asian) Guild, so kudos for going with a neck reset on such a Guild calvoi.

It's a westerly one. It's the first reset I've done on a nice guitar. However, this guitar was beaten up and half destroyed by a previous owner so I thought it was a good project to bring it back to life. It's an all hog flatback D25 that needed at least a £1000 worth of work. At their current value it wasnt going to get anyone buying it to have professional restored.

Nice guitar. Are you going to steam it off?
