I've already pulled the neck using a homemade heatstick similar to the stew Mac one attaching to a soldering iron. The previous owner had packed the dovetail join poorly so I've rebuilt it and recut it. Neck now has the right geometry. Need to glue neck, then fretboard (previous owner cut the extension off while trying to get at neck). Then lots of finish work to do next.

+10!
The distinction between those "luthiers" who bolt together guitars and Luthiers who work timber. Looking forward to a piccie of the job when finished.

It took me quite some time to source some suitable tortoiseshell blanks. This was the big hold up. Overall, I am very very happy with it. I have only touched up where I needed to and left any battle scars. The action is perfect with space on the saddle for lowering if need be. It is a really nice guitar, kind of dark and resonant. Overall, I am really happy with the work. A previous owned has gauged at the neck and left some horrible marks, broke the neck heel, messed up the reset, sanded top finish to satin. Unfortunately, these guitars aren;t worth enough (yet) to justify paying a luthier to do the work. I am very happy to get this basket case back on the road.
