The cone looked a bit squished under the biscuit on one side to me, too.
...but methylated spirits and elbow grease on a duco finish? He was a very lucky man that didn't go wrong, imho of course.
Plus "I couldn't find anybody who could help me"? Doesn't Dave King work up the road from him? Freebee springs to mind.

I am guessing that the attraction of this "repair" was, it was free and the guitar is now "famous" for being on TV which could enhance its value to some buyers.

I watched the episode and it was great to see a Duolian on the TV, not so great to see the saddle being worked whilst still on the cone.
My ears pricked up with the Reading connection and his friend Terry, I wondered if it was Terry Clarke but did not catch it all. Exciting none the less to have a reference to Terry but sad at the same moment.
Regards
Lee

Michael had referred to his friend Terry earlier in the thread. All in all I thought that the item was disappointing, lots of things NOT to do with a vintage resonator. Nobody has mentioned it but I think it sounded pretty awful when played at the handover. ๐ค๐ธ๐ธ

"Nobody has mentioned it but I think it sounded pretty awful when played at the handover. ๐ค๐ธ๐ธ" Aggy just said the same!!!
Wasn't a fan of the program in general. The doll story was sweet.

Indeed. It did not sound great and I found the whole Terry thing sad, but wonderful.
The cone was not in great shape and the guitar was in need of a neck reset. The thing it needed least was a re-fret. It wonโt be too long and it will be making the same rattling noise as it did before the repair.
If the owner, David, ever reads this thread, I would be happy to look at the guitar and to recommend you someone that can do the job properly.
