Okay so I woke up early and can't sleep so apologies for a slightly esoteric question From reading this forum it seems a lot of people have quite a few guitars. My hypothetical question is this:
Would you trade in all of your guitars for your three dream guitars?
I am curious as to whether people would much rather have many different guitars or a few that they really love.
Personally I only really play one guitar, I actually only have three - the other two I made. (Not counting the wife's guitar.) I've always chosen to save up and get something I really want as opposed to buy three models that I kind of want. Of course now I want a resonator too but I will most likely give away one of my other guitars to 'swap' for it. Interested to hear other peoples opinions, especially from those that collect a lot!
Thanks for entertaining my early morning questions!

Yup, I do have too many guitars, basses and amps and each one is special to me - memories, some were gifts - and all that guff. There are probably four guitars, all acoustic, three of which are resos, which get played almost on a daily basis. There are probably two basses that will get played if I ever went 'electric band' again - one of them will certainly be a lightweight short scale. Some are my dream guitars. The amps haven't been plugged in for over a year although I did get rid of the trusty Ampeg bass rig in preference af a lightweight mini system. Pedals? Ah, yes I have a few special ones which also do not get used these days. I know it's daft and illogical but...... They will get passed down to my children and grandchildren when I pop my clogs - I hope they will look after them and play them but if they sell, I would like them to go to a person who will look after them, not profiteers. .....but how do I control that?

That is much of what guitars (and instruments are in general) I guess. So much in the music world is subjective that perhaps being logical and sensible isn't the right way to go. I am sure your children and grandchildren will look after them if they know how much you cared for them. How many of them play guitars?

Then I imagine all of your guitars are will be in good hands. The more difficult problem might be distribution .

16 for 3 is serious downsize. You must have plenty of storage for 19 guitars! Question is what 30s national? you've made me wonder about my three dream guitars now. I love my d18 and wouldn't trade it so that makes one. I think the second would be a beltona triplate and I haven't met the third yet.

It’s been difficult but I’ve finally managed to get it down to 6 guitars (OK 7 including Cyril) and a few Ukes
Current collection is... No name Weissenborn Martin OOO Amistar Tricone National Estralita Epiphone Century 66 Sollophonic Tele
but can’t imagine moving any of em on unless I am upgrading like for like, e.g. if I could get hold of an early National 1133 Student model I would sell the Sollophonic.
Cheers

16 here, but 2 I definitely am not going to use so that brings it down to 14. And one I bought to duplicate the electonics on a bobcat.
I keep a chart on which songs go with each guitar so at least 9 are keepers. Three are optional alts, two acoustics and one electric. And one is a dedicated decorative object for alot of years
None of my guitars are collectible and 5 are cheap ebay finds.
I can think of three that I would say they would be a dream guitar trio, but my money would be on the ones I have and use as being the best match so far. So no I would not trade what I have for three "dream" guitars.

I like to keep things simple,
it started with one for everyday of the week,
Then enough for months of the year,
Now heading towards days in the month....
Not looking for days in the year, enough is never enough....
