PD, include a money allotment for a copy of below in your will? bluebookofguitarvalues.com/#/Indexmitchfit PS- guitar collections cam be a menace to domestic tranquility. amp collections are 10X worse. The list is prepared but major decisions yet to be made on who gets what. There are three to four items which are giving me a headache at the moment but funnily enough the lads don't seem to be worried about value, they seem to know what they like. The problem ones are a Gibson Melody Maker, two Fender Duo-Sonics, a Nash 1965 Hendrix alike Strat and a '53 alike P Bass.

I have one guitar, but was really my dream guitar, I had wanted it for about 5 years before before I was in a position to buy it. I don't think I could swap it for any other guitar or ever sell it.
I have urges to buy other guitars, but I can be quite content owning one guitar.

I think I have nineteen because when I count them in my head I usually forget one or two. Including the ukulele, banjos, mandolins, bouzouki and fiddle it's nearer thirty. I would part with half a dozen guitars but since I'm not strapped for cash I'm not in any hurry to let them go for a song. I had this brief discussion with Jono at the weekend. Too late for Jono though! MM once said that it's a great road to be travelled (past tense!) but it's still a good ride. There's really only one I'd grab in that fire. I'd still like a Blackguard and an Epiphone Olympic but head rules heart these days. And yes- space is a serious consideration!

this'n will date you-
didn't Phineas of "The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" say that "guitars will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no guitars"?
or something to that effect.

I have my 5 main home-made giggers, two dobrostein monster conversions, a MM blues, a kay parlour, a bootleg tele and strat, and a cheapo acoustic parlour. I've usually got one in for repair from someone. The giggers usually stay in the cases, the rest are scattered around for practice / decoration. I'm sure Phineas said something else BTW... TT

I’ve just gone through a similar thought process myself and my conclusion was yes- leading me to sell most of my collection to make way for my two dream custom NRP guitars which I put a great deal of thought into, set up just-so for me. It’s an individual and personal thing but less feels like more to me. I don’t like having guitars around that I don’t play quite as much, it feels like they are being wasted on me when someone could be enjoying them daily! I am trying to be a little more discerning now to figure out my musical needs from my wants and keep guitar acquisition syndrome at bay as best as I can...though I don’t deny the likelihood of it knocking at my door again some day in the future

Chase your dreams. Get the best, most special guitars you can find. If that means selling a few to make that happen, go for it. Owning and playing cool vintage Nationals (or whatever you're into) is extremely rewarding. Inspiration, friendship, history and music.

I've bought & sold quite a lot of instruments (never some new ones btw) so that I can say that I've learned from each one of them, even the Framus parlor of my beginning... Discerning our musical needs also means testing some other instruments and check what we can get through them, no ?

I had to sell some guits at a flea market to make the rent once. A Fender cabinet with two 15" speakers went for $75. I don't recall what a Fender Musicmaster Bass, 1980 Gretsch BST1500 or a worn Fender P Bass went for. The one that kills me to this day is a circa 1961 Les Paul SG that someone hacked a Dimarzio Super Distortion Humbucker into. That was my favorite and I let it go for $135. (in 1987). I'd trade most of what I own to have that one back. Attachments:

I’d trade them all for Neil Young’s Hank Williams 1941 D28 Martin. Neil once said he doesn’t own it, he’s just the custodian until the next generation.
