Thanks TT, Michael and Manish for putting on this latest workshop.
Its really good to put faces to names/avatars from this forum. Great to meet you all. Was an enjoyable afternoon that leaves me wanting more. Us forum members need to be more proactive and arrange more regular meet ups.
Best....
Phil.

Thanks to Tone Tanner, AKA Deuce, AKA TT, for making it happen. It was so well organised for us all that we couldn't have wanted for more. Excellent venue and lots of refreshments and snacks. Perfect! Also thanks to everyone for coming. I know that for some people it was a very long day. Among others that came a long way were Jono and Graham, they did a 500 mile round trip, and Lonely Jelly and Orbital did the best part of a 400 mile round trip. Thank you all for making the effort to make it happen. Graham Hutton wrote a lovely piece for Facebook and I think he is going to try and publish it in Blues In Britain magazine. Photo by Graham Hutton ©2018 I never used to be like this, but over the last few years i've decided that if you take on a new challenge it's best to dive in with both feet rather than just dipping your toe in the water, so yesterday saw Jon Brook and myself driving to a small barn in Worcester for a slide guitar workshop with Michael Messer and Manish Pingle.
I own a nice shiny resonator because it looks pretty on the wall. I also own a slide as that's the thing to do if you've got a resonator. I've not spent more than a few hours fiddling on it, but after Michael assured us that it was for all abilities off I went.
It turned out to be an excellent afternoon. Michael is a great teacher, serious, funny, kind and patient. not for one second making me feel that i was not of the right standard, just intent on teaching us all something more than we knew before.
I ended the day a better slide player than I was, in that I still own one and know how to tune it and get a fairly clean note from it. A huge leap from the beginning of the day.
out of 13 of us there were several who know people I have connections with as the UK blues scene is fairly small. (Steve Darrington, Malcolm Graham (PD) says hi, he and his wife are both well, told me a few stories 😉 ) and one particularly famous young man other than Michael of course, Perry Foster. Long time guitarist, lifelong musician and one of the former MCs of the great Colne Rhythm & Blues Festival. The man who first told Robert Plant that he had a pretty decent voice and let him join his band on the washboard. His stories could have filled the afternoon, but we were there for other things.
After 3 hours of, for me, pretty intense, concentration we had a cuppa and then MM and Manish gave us a showcase on their Blues/Eastern fusion project. Manish using his custom made, guitar sized Mohan Veena as a lap slide. Mesmerising is the only word I can think of. 'Rollin' and Tumblin' took on a whole new sound with more depth and tonality. Who ever said you can't get clean sweet sounds from 3 strings has never heard one of these.
MM is one of the cleanest slide guitarists i've ever heard and i hope to see him do the full show one day.
There were, as always, a couple of people there more intent on showing off their abilities whilst others were trying to learn, but that happens at any group session like this. We all know the type of people and have our own opinions of them 🤔. The rest of us bonded nicely as a group of people there to improve and learn regardless of ability.
A huge thanks to Tone Tanner for organising it for us and bringing snacks to keep us going.
My next 'dive in' project will be an Aynsley Lister guitar tuition weekend in January. it feels good to stretch the boundaries of our comfort zone and i now remember how good it feels to make music again regardless of ability. — at St Nicholas Warndon. Stevie picked us up and dropped us back home at the end and we had a great time nattering all the way. Thanks Steve! Much appreciated. Thanks everyone! Shine On Michael

Thanks for posting Michael. The photos are great and a nice article by Graham. It's always good being around like minded people, even more so when the interest is music and learning how to play! Thanks again to you, Manish and TT for a very enjoyable afternoon, hope it's not too long before the next one!
Best wishes to you all, John

That's Bonzo's duolian. My wife actually ticked me off for sitting on the tombstone - I don't think the dead guy was too fussed :0 TT

This actually would be considered honorable in New Orleans. On all saints day the cemeteries here host many family parties and families visit with their ancestors... Music, food, a regular picnic. Tells yo wife I says So.

Hi Deuce, yes it was the old duolian, and I enjoyed listening to you play it properly! I had time to look around the church yard and noticed that stone marker commemorated a 7 year old girl who had passed away around 200 hundred years ago. I hope that the vibrations you sent down met up with her in some happy place. Enjoy life, you're dead a long time!
Best wishes to you all, John

It was worth interrupting my moving in to my new home to come up and meet everyone one there - it is good to put faces to names (some of them anyway) and I was surprised at how easy and friendly it all was. I’ve been practising vibrato ever since! Thanks too to Manish and Michael - it’s great to talk guitars and music!
All the best Andrew

Had a bit of fun this morning... Found a tanpura loop in D with simple tablas on youtube and I have been playing along with it. Watch out Michael and Manish.
