I know I'm probably in the minority, but I prefer my Dobro's blues tone over any Tricone I've owned (5+ including vintage Nationals)!

I believe I read that Clapton's Model 45 from the "Unplugged" sessions was rebuilt (maybe by Mike Lewis?) and didn't have an original neck or cone and spider. Anyone know what cone was used in his?

I had a NRP RadioTone (not the IMO, ugly bend away version) and it had a lovely tone. Indistinguishable in recordings from my vintage Duolian. Ultimately tho, I traded it off because the nechh was so much more narrow than my other resonators.... No truss rod (and no problem) but I wasn't aware it had a metal well!

If I were in the UK I'd offer you a NRP Tricone with HHighhlander on trade...

That looks like a good bit of weight to deaden the cones vibrations....

I have a Republic and a NRP but I'm betting you are in the UK?

I thought that Marc was an advocate of the NRP neck angle?

PD - My all original '32 Walnut Burst Triolian has sheared a couple of buttons in the manner you described. I knew about the StewMac buttons and ordered a few, but ended up epoxying the original buttons back together on the shafts and the are still working well 3 or 4 years laster. You can't even really tell they were re-glued!

I would take a chance on either one of those cones! I've used ones that looked that bad or worse, with excellent results.

I've been binge-watching music documentaries on Amazon Prime lately. Some really excellent ones are: Echoes in the Canyon, Muscle Shoals, A Song of the South (Duane Allman/Early Allman Bros) and The Wrecking Crew. Super interesting and you will definitely be inspired!
Any other good ones I'm missing? Maybe fodder for a new thread?
