I have the opportunity to re-acquire a 1933 Dobro model 27 which I had briefly and sold a couple of years ago to the music shop I got it from when I needed the money, it sat there a couple of years until now, the guy who owns the music shop is retiring and handing the shop over to someone else so trying to sell off as much stock as possible, I jumped at the chance to have this one back
I remember that I liked that guitar for a lot of my non blues stuff (no bluegrass though, this ones rebellious), obviously a lot of people use biscuit cone resos for blues but I’ve been wondering if there’s any blues musicians, old or new, who use dobros for blues, I’m intrigued to see how the different sound lends itself to different styles.

Duane Allman is another Dobro player for blues. I use my Regal 1935 (style 27) to play hawaiian, and the sound is gorgeous for this style of music too.

The list is creeping up.... I try to keep lists away from this forum, but as long as it is a bit more than just a list, then it's fine. Graham Hine Dickey Betts Duane Allman Louisiana Red with my blue Dobro Yours truly... with my blue Dobro Shine On Michael

Hi there ! Johnny Winter plays one - and is pictured on the album he did with Sonny Terry Johnny did own an OMI Dobro, but as far as I know his was a biscuit bridge, not a spider. That album, Whoopin', was the first thing Johnny produced after Muddy had died. Shine On Michael

That's the album I was thinking of. I have the LP but I'm at work so couldn't look for an image to post. Great album.

Not blues but gospel, the Rev Pearly Brown played Dobro on his Testament recording.

That is a Dobro, but not a spider bridge one. I love Pearly Brown, especially the wonderful John English documentary film about him, Mean Old World. Shine On Michael

Don't mean to take the thread further off track, but it had got me thinking about Rev Pearly Brown, seeing all these dobros. I watched the film and listened to his Rounder record again the other day and he is a great singer and player.
