Could get my son-in-law to 3D print one. I would need a tracing or photo with accurate distance between the holes Pete

Do they have any benefits? For standard slide playing, probably not. I have 2 slides that I usually use, an old brass one and one of Ian’s in blue glass. Both are ‘bullet’ style. I do play a little lap steel and use the same slide for this and standard slide so the bullet end is best . I am now very at home with this type and am too old to change. As is often said about slide playing ‘ there are no rules’ if it feels right to you then that’s the one to use. Pete

I will leave the logo at the moment and might do a video and see if anyone on the forum would like this odd instrument. If they don’t I’ll hand it over to my son-in-law who has a small ‘Reverb’ shop . When it goes on Reverb I will have to change ( or at least cover) the logo, Reverb are very sensitive about fake branding ( which is reassuring) .
Anyone out there want the worlds ugliest guitar? Pair of P90 style pickups 5 position switch ( yes 5 different tones from 2 pickups) Great action, etc etc.

I have just been given this ‘Telecaster’ style neck. The Fender logo has been well applied ,if a little too close to the end ( Also has a Custom Shop’ logo on the back) but it I can see it is a fake. So what to do? I have an old Burns body ( well not very old for a Burns, but still made by Jim Burns ) which needs a neck . Should I leave the Fender logo? The last neck with a fake F. logo I just changed Stratocaster to Copycaster , or I could put ‘Not a’ in front of the logo.? I like the look of original logos on ‘traditional’ head shapes ( my National copies usually have Natural written in similar script so they look right but are not done to deceive) Pete

Hi Perry, welcome to the forum. Your Busker should have a serial number stamped on the top edge of the headstock. Pete

Luckily for the world there's only one! Shine On Michael Some years ago I made a reso out of a bowl back guitar. I did several things that I thought would give it more power and a great tone. 1) the well started as a 9 1/2” but was opened out to form a sort of trumpet shape ( to give more volume) 2) a larger than standard cover plate ( so more sound could come out) 3) 2 necksticks, for better support under the well 4) a brass top bonded to the old wooden top for extra stiffness It sounded unremarkable and is hanging in bits in my workshop Pete

The scale length is determined by the position of the frets,( twice the distance between the nut and 12th fret) not the bridge. Moving the bridge will just make it play out of tune, the neck would have to be replaced to increase the scale length . Pete

BBC Radio 4 last Saturday at 3.00pm. Arthur ( or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)
Writing (partly ) by Ray Davis this is a dramatised version of their 1969 LP of the same name. Lots of bits of Kinks/Davis songs set around the the 50-60s and what happened to the Davis family when Rays sister emigrated to Australia. Pete

Damage to pickups without covers is common. This Tele (Style) pickup has no DC resistance, there is a break somewhere. This is often because of a string getting hooked on the edge of the pickup. *by shorting out the surface winding you can often bridge the broken wire , the surface was rubbed with some 1000grade wet&dry to remove the insulation . This will reduce the impedance a little, so the pickup wouldn’t be so ‘hot’ . So the DC resistance is now 5.5, I have seen lower readings on new pickups It’s a ‘bodge’ job but as the alternative is a £50 rewind I’m happy with it. Pete

So just about there. It is not exactly the same as the brass one. Wood is not as stiff and I think it would bend if I made it the same ( I think the guitar may have moved a little since it was made 60 years ago so the bridge is a bit lower) I have added a couple of millimetres to the bottom and a couple the the sides. The action will be the same and hopefully remain so! The colour is a little darker, but it should get lighter with age. Pete

A forum member has just given me a 125 to have a new bridge. At some time the old rosewood one ( with ,probably, just a compensated B) has been replaced with a brass one ( for a plain G) . The owner likes the way the guitar plays but would like a rosewood bridge as the original would have had, though this time with compensation for B and G, like the brass one. Pete Luckily I have a piece of rosewood big enough for the job. The wood is not quarter sawn, but is big enough to make a block ‘on the quarter ‘ out of it Now I just need to remove everything that doesn’t look like the brass bridge Covering with white tape helps me see where to file

From your photos it looks like they are all spun, some were spun quicker than others, so the typical spinning marks are much smother on some. The cones are then stamped with the spiral pattern ( not something you can ‘spin’ in.) So these cone are spun, then stamped. Pete
Some of the edge details are also stamped in at the same time. ( not sure of the timing, but this would seem logical)
The only real upgrade would be a set of NRP cones which will be much more expensive, Far Eastern cones can be a little thick ( I have been told this by someone more experienced with Tricones than me )
You also have felt rings on your guitar, sometimes these improve the tone ( they will probably stop any rattling due to uneven cones/ well.) Many remove them
Your guitar is also ‘ under strung ‘ . National tailpieces were no designed to have the string like that. However, if your guitar has not been given enough neck angle, it may be the only way of putting enough pressure on the bridge without a neck reset.
