A longish interview with a very talented young ,but old school, steel player. As someone who sometimes plays lap style I found it very interesting. Pete

Unlike some resonator guitars the fiddle edge has a neck stick that buts up against the end block, so there is no room for a standard endpin Jack. The body of mine is very beaten about, so I don’t mind the jack in the side somewhere. Pete

Clever idea Pete1951... Did you ever try this? If not, did you try something else? I still am having problems with finishing the fiddle edge but I will make the pickup eventually!

The el844 arrived today. There is a small volume drop . Have not had time to do a proper test yet and still waiting for parts for the Dominator. Pete

looked up "mola mola" 'cause i didn't get the implications. being a pisces my self, seems kinda cool to me! mitchfit The full name of the band is in fact Mola Mola Jumbalaya. So a sort of large fish stew, with a Southern flavour. Pete

Eldest son is in Cambridge with his old band 'Wardrobe Assassin' celebrating his 50th birthday this weekend. Be aware Pete... It’s a very small pub, but all welcome!

As venues close I am pleased to get to play in public. ( ok , the public might not like it but that’s their problem) the 6 Bells is a tiny pub with a big heart and has lots of live music. My Band ,Mola Mola, (yes it’s an odd name but I joined after it was formed) are playing there this Saturday. Free entry , so live music at no cost to you! Expect blues based rocky tunes Pete

I have just been given a Squier Stat new that has been in a flood. At the body end it has swollen 2mm , the finger board hasn’t moved at all ( I can tell by the fret ends) I will remove the finger board and wait for the neck to return to it’s proper size, how long that will be remains to be seen! Yes, what Michael says.
The thing is that the body is a slab of wood and shouldn’t have this problem. I suspect this is not a true WolfTone, and might be caused by something other than a resonant vibration. Very hard to tell at a distance. Pete

A fun guitar ( I have also used Eko necks on odd bodies, )
Wolf tones are usually associated with fully acoustic instruments ( mainly the violin family) could it be the string? Or is the action too low? Or could the sound be coming from behind the bridge . If your saddle has a deep notch you could move the string out of the notch to lift the action a little, does it still give the same problem? Does it come through the amp or is it just acoustic?
Could you record it? Pete

Th EL844 looks interesting, every suppler in the UK seems out of stock at the moment. I will get a pair as soon as I can . How they ( or one of them ) will react to being in a push-pull amp with an standard EL84 will be very interesting. With my dual concentric pot I could then go from a 5watt single EL84 to a 3 watt?(not sure how powerful) EL844. Plenty of ‘ crunch ‘ at bedroom volume. Pete
Just found one on line, hopefully will be testing it on Wednesday!

Many new amps have master volume controls. This let’s you get a bit of ‘crunch’ without turning the amp up so much your ears bleed. Retro fitting one to an existing amp can be done though it is a compromise, the ‘best’ distortion usually comes from the power valves and a master allows the preamp to be overdriven. That said, I have a master on my ‘67 Fender Princeton and like the sound it makes ( at low-ish volume) . I have just been given a WEM dominator with a very customised amp. It has no master, but does have a spare ‘pot hole’.
Normally I would put in a dual gang pot, this would turn down the signal going to the power valves as it leaves the phase inverter. ( this of coarse only works on amp with 2 or 4 power valves) But what if I were to use a dual concentric pot rather than a dual gang? This allows you to turn down one or both of the dual pots separately. Turned down together will give a conventional master volume. Turn down just one and you suddenly have a single valve working, so a 15 watt amp turns into about 5 watt and turning the other part of the dual concentric down will give even more control. Does any other amp have this ? My friend Barry (@ampmaker) says it won’t harm the amp and he has a switch on his latest amp that turns one valve off, which my control can do.
I am waiting for some parts but hope to have the amp running in a few weeks, hopefully I will like the asymmetrical tones that my control will give. Pete

Could get my son-in-law to 3D print one. I would need a tracing or photo with accurate distance between the holes Pete

Do they have any benefits? For standard slide playing, probably not. I have 2 slides that I usually use, an old brass one and one of Ian’s in blue glass. Both are ‘bullet’ style. I do play a little lap steel and use the same slide for this and standard slide so the bullet end is best . I am now very at home with this type and am too old to change. As is often said about slide playing ‘ there are no rules’ if it feels right to you then that’s the one to use. Pete
