bonzo,
you make a valid point.
still they did not even come close to the extent of both versions of Voodoo Chile, Third Stone From the Sun or Pali Gap did?

MM said, "nothing can replace the human spirit".
if a machine(s) can, it is only a matter of time before they form a coalition and decide that we need removed from the equation.
that's why humans will never be purely logical,

roger that!!! my youngest son has forgotten more about computers than i'll ever know. he says there is a computer out there that "creates" endless music in real time now. how could this be possible with NO phrases that were somehow copied from previous artists?
the machine can only regurgitate data that was programmed into the operating program.
not true with humans?

what Lee said. the suggestions above are only what the owners have liked, or perhaps what was not ideal to them as my thoughts on fuzz face, EQ as distortion or tube pedals regarding what MY ears wanna hear.
along those lines richclough's suggestion for Effectrode Blackbird may be worth looking into if the third valve is used as the (very low wattage) power valve and the other two as a preamp. this way an actual output tube saturation may sound very close to what my ears want. couldn't determine for sure if that's true about circuit from reading owners manual online.
consider testing what got mentioned above live in a [worthwhile] brick and mortar music store as all posters may not have similar likes to your's. buy >something< from them even if you didn't like the the audition. it is to your benefit they remain in business.
if i were looking down upon the planet from above the north pole i'd say the world spins in a counter clock wise rotation. if you were doing the same from above the south pole you would think i was so-o-o full of it my eyes were turning brown.
who's right?
before Jimi, feed back was generally considered very unwanted noise.

Jimmy Page used a Dallas Arbiter "fuzz" pedal turned way-way down on the wave peak squaring into a tube amp, with the rest added by amplifier output tube clipping. this ploy was used to avoid the "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" type chainsaw grind that many dislike. clearly this seems well beyond your stated desires. another option is just a 10 band EQ pedal used to cut unwanted frequencies and/or boost the desired frequency range into amplfication source and mildly saturating input signal to PA by tweaking input/output volumes to taste. reviews: products.bestreviews.com/best-guitar-eq-pedal?yb&cid=650116251&aid=1254543415160027&eid=&tid=kwd-78409332074560:loc-190&ul=78540&mt=p&n=s&d=c&dm=&dt&sn&adid=&k=guitar%20eq%20pedal&p=&pc=&ap=&chtrb=1&msclkid=08b57a186d341d32abfb1c0443913a9ethe Electro Harmonix "English Muff'n" was a compromise between signal Hz selection and genuine tube/valve wave clipping input to amplification source. it used a "cascading tone circuit". high/mid/low volume pots regulated circuit based on the Vox AC30 preamp design. the original OEM tube offerings were 12AX7 pair. later reduced to 12AY7 to get away from over emphasizing distortion. to my tastes a 12AU7/ECC82 is a better choice for most use. even an intentional use of different valves is possible in order to change gain characteristics. still, it will not really get the output valve saturation qualities from resulting signal. the EHX was steadily going down in used prices until the offering was dropped from production 'coupla years ago. now the demand has increased by lack of supply. user ratings near bottom of page: reverb.com/p/electro-harmonix-english-muffnNOT an endorsement for any of them. you have to decide what creates the sound you really desire. hope this helped some, mitchfit

Lee said--"really only looking UK to avoid complicated form filling"
good call on that one. you could be required to provide PROOF that the wood used to make the guitar is in no way hazardous to humans. after the shipping costs have been collected to import it to US customs.
not a fantasy scenario.

PD,
OK, now i get it. even recall "glad all over" from mid 60's AM radio days. can now see it was about their cover of previous MM posting. that song was not one of my favorites either.
i had always thought they had driven the "Nancy Sinatra Expressway" route to stardom. searching them today, i learned that NO members of the band were sons of Dick Clark AKA-American Bandstand TV host. same was my long held miss-belief. at least i got one thing right today.
even a broken clock is right twice a day:

looked for Mr. Hallet's "WW3" lyrics to no avail. pocket watch sized non-stereo speaker in lap-top didn't allow a very close audio inspection of same.
but i did stumble on this. liked it enough to post:

PD,
looked up "DC5 carbon bibaxide" in a www dot search. now i get the carbon bibaxide reference, but am still clueless as to DC5 meaning. did a "DC5" search and got more hits than i could count on fingers AND toes.
something must have got lost in translation from English to Yankglish?
what's a DC5?

that correction was for video content only. the echoplex began production in 1959, so the chances they were not aware is slim indeed.

PD & MM, many non-players can't tell bass from guit listening to a recording. on the other hand, live you can FEEL the difference in your chest: www.guitarworld.com/features/john-paul-jones-greatest-moments-with-led-zeppelinor imagine Cream without Jack Bruce. [methinks Sunshine Of Your Love played live would have been impossibly thin sounding for Clapton without Jack taking up the slack during the solo?]: another Jack that Hot Tuna would have missed sorely: and to MM's point. [PD-you know the wattage required for a bass to cut through. how did Paul keep a holllowbody Hofner from feeding back live?] rumor mill has it he picked Hofner 'cause it wouldn't look silly up side down: mitchfit PS-- not trying to detract from what a truly great engineer Geoff Emerick was, but the tape echo was a Les Paul brainstorm from the 1940's: thejhsshow.com/articles/ultimate-history-of-tape-echo
