Hi there ! Just found this pickup for sale on ebay and did a search to find the guy's website. Not sure if anyone else has seen it yet. American designed and made, originally after trying to make a magnetic pickup similar to the type Django Reinhart used. He made a thinner design that is suitable for resonator guitars and archtop acoustics, like a Gibson L50, that don't have a suspended fretboard extension - and thus the strings are closer to the guitar top. Scroll down the webpage to a Youtube video. I think it sounds quite good - perhaps the best magnet pickup for resos I have heard : krivopickups.com/my-art/krivo-pickup-for-resophonic-guitars/Supposedly they are 1mm thinner than the Lace reso pickups and use a putty to stick the pickup on, rather than double-sided adhesive (which might damage a guitar's finish, upon removal). I emailed the seller / maker to ask if these pickups were voiced for nickel-wound or phosphor-bronze strings. He answered by saying it is suitable for both - and that the pickup has adjustable polepieces. Not entirely sure that answers my question !! I'm guessing though from the overall description of the pickup, that it is designed for phosphor-bronze strings, as he states several times the pickup is designed for acoustic guitars. Trouble is, if it is voiced better for nickel-wound strings and your guitar has phosphor-bronze strings on it, you might need to raised the adjustable polepieces, high up, for the wound strings to sound balanced. Raising the polepieces may get in the way of the strings, during play, especially if string height was an issue in the first place, to be tight for space for a pickup !!

Thanks, I might contact the krivo people. I have a problem with my small soundhole guitars - check and see if it can go across a pickguard - if so you could putty it from the inside of the soundhole. I used blue painters tape on the fragile surface of my guitars and then putty for my schatten.

There was a really good review of these pickups recently in the acoustic guitar (American) magazine, they focused on a gypsy Django model but none the less the principle was much the same. I fancy one for a wood bodied resonator that is currently in the workshop.

Hi All, This is Jason, founder and builder of Krivo pickups. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. The pickup was originally voiced for silvered copper wound strings (Argentine, Gypsy Jazz). But my latest resonator models are designed for Phosphor bronze, but they work well with nickel too, I can also do custom mods with larger poles for particular strings if height is a problem. Here is a clip of Will Webster playing the pickup Krivo Demo.wav
The new ones I am making get as thin as 5.8-6mm!

Lawd lawdy, Harriet Hi Harriet, I make special pickups for various soundhole guitars (parlor, tenor, regular-old martin style, etc.) I do custom work as well. My "company" is just me by myself by the way! good luck.

Jason Good that you have found this forum, although UK based it does have worldwide interest.

I just read about these pickups as well and I'm very interested, the video sounds awesome... I typically use D'addario EJ16 phosphor bronze light gauge 12-53 strings, so they should work well, right? I see on the website that you can offer different finishes, can you do an aged metal finish?

The demo of the reso pickup sounds GREAT to my ears. Nice big articulate top end and yet retains the acoustic tone of the wound strings without sounding clunky and thuddy at the bottom end like so many mag pickups do.
I'm looking for a pickup for my Dobro, ideally something removable that i can either use alongside a mic or run alone if required. This could well fit the bill...I need to check fingerboard height etc to make sure it would fit.
Do you ship to the UK, Jason?

You may have to PM Jason as not sure if he checks in to the posts daily, a few forum members have them and seem quite happy with the results, get them before it,s no longer a cottage industry!!!
Although the exchange rate is not currently fantastic.
