How much would you expect to pay for a second hand MM lightning?
I have found one second hand, however it has a small notch in the back of the neck. the chap said this wouldnt effect the playing (obviuosly as at back of neck) - but you could feel it. He said easy to sort out. This one is £350... does this sound like a good buy?

Hi Trash116,
That is a good price to pay for a Lightning. We could sell you a 'second' at a discount price but it would still be a lot more than £350.

Second hand MM's don't come on the market very often, but it sounds a good price. I think plenty of forum members would be there like a shot if they knew where it was

Hi, Personally, I think we need to know more about it. What does the rest of the guitar look like? What condition is it in? Has it been modified? Does it come with the original POD style case? How did the damage happen?
Even if it hasn't been modified since new, when new it could have been supplied with Stewart MacDonald tuners (or not), it could have been supplied with a chicken foot coverplate or a different finish to the normal one. Admittedly these things only matter if they fit in with your own preferences e.g. you don't have to spend any more money on it if it is as you want it to be right now. If you have no preference this paragraph is irrelevant.
As to the damage, I don't think it will affect the playability of the guitar, so it really depends on whether you are personally happy to accept the damage or not.
I'm not a very practical person but it looks like it could be repaired by filling it in and polishing in the same way you would a piece of wooden furniture. (To my mind that begs the question as to why the seller didn't do that.)
A second hand MM Lightning with the cone and biscuit replaced by a National hot rod cone and having an aged finish sold on ebay two months ago for £545 so that gives you some idea of value. If everything else is OK, £350 seems reasonable to me.

Hi Everyone, thanks for the comments.
From the pictures the rest of the guitar looks perfect. Ive spoken to the bloke, he seems geniune enough, described it as mint apart from the dent.
No mods. No pod case - i'll have to ask about that.
He's told me his niece accdiently knocked it off the stand and the neck hit the radiator.
What's the difference on the Stewart Macdonald tuners and the others? Which are the best?
Whats a chickenfoot coverplate? Sorry for my ignorance
Its the standard finish
Ive got the serial nr - its nr 00028 from the 08 lightning batch
Thanks Marc

Hi Everyone, thanks for the comments. <SNIP> What's the difference on the Stewart Macdonald tuners and the others? Which are the best? Whats a chickenfoot coverplate? Sorry for my ignorance <SNIP> Ive got the serial nr - its nr 00028 from the 08 lightning batch Thanks Marc Hi Marc, Some people prefer the look of the Stewart MacDonald tuners and they are fitted as standard now but this one will have the original style (same as mine). I'm happy with the originals, they work fine and look OK to me. The round cover plate that you see when you look at the front of the guitar can have different patterns, it's just a matter of taste, it makes no difference to the sound or playing of the guitar. From what you've said, you have to decide if you are happy with buying a guitar with a little damage or not. Without the damage it would probably sell for more money. The damage could be easily repaired (I think) and won't actually affect the guitar sound anyway. It should really come with the case. So, yes, it sounds like a good buy.
