I did not play but I was the guy drinking too much Oban and wearing the 'Fat Men are harder to kidnap' t-shirt - and I am still so happy for a fabulous weekend spent with people who care about the same things i do David

Dear Davidrees
there is no such thing as too much Oban. Not enough money for it, yes, too much Oban, no.

Pat and I really enjoyed meeting players from another genre' as we haven't seen much in the way of slide resophonic players other than the "Horizontal" ones.
Specially for Gouranga, this is similar to what we did.

Hi Pat & Basil,
Thank you both for coming and playing at the festival. I enjoyed meeting you after all these years and thought your performance was excellent.

Hi Pat & Basil, Ron and I really enjoyed the history of lap slide you both presented - we talked about it all the way home (we got back about 0330 !) you were really inspirational And thanks for the info on tunings and string gauges for the squareneck tricone we produce. When I get some time, I'm going to experiment - Oh what I'd give for the time to play at present Robin

I finally worked out how to post on the Forum! WOO! Just wanted to say a big thankyou to Percy again, to June, and everyone that helped organise the Slide Fest I had a wonderful time It's really lovely to be able to go to somewhere and just be absorbed in what I love doing the most. I really enjoyed talking to you all and meeting everyone, and as far as the concert goes, it's been one of the best gigs I've ever done so far. Everyone was so responsive and lovely! I have to say at one point I had to open my eyes and check you were all awake - it was so silent! Never had that really before It was lovely. John Cage always said that the most important part of music was listening, and I believe that's true. I noticed someone said that they'd learnt more from just sitting and listening to Michael in the workshop than from any video etc, and it's been very true for me too so far. Things like Blues Week and the Slide Fest allow you to go and just do and see and listen and that's what's important in music for me - keeping that aural tradition alive and enjoying and being absorbed in music I know I learnt a lot watching people play and listening to all the talks etc on Saturday so thankyou to everyone Michael, thankyou very much for everything! You and Ed were fab, I'm looking forward to Keighley on Friday. (Sorry I ruined your song too haha!!) I know everyone will agree with me when I say Tom was brilliant too Here's to next year!!! Big hugs to everyone!! Thanks again!!! Lucy Zirins xxx

Hi Lucy ;D just listening to your CD sounds fantastic ;D thanks for signing it and having a good chat with me, i was the bloke with the army cap on. I thought your voice and guitar playing were great and i know alot of people at the back were saying Wow shes good ;D It was funny how nervous you were outside in the conservatory before you had to go on ;D it shows even people who are as good you get nervous and to think i was just nervous when Michael was doing his workshop when everyone had to play something my mind went blank I'm in awe of you lot who perform in front of people, i just hope as someone who has just started out that i can reach the same standard as you one day. Take care Marc ;D

Hi Lucy,
Thank you for your message. We all enjoyed your set very much.
John Cale is right about the importance of the audience 'listeners'. This is something that happens in Indian classical music; the Listeners are as important as the musicians.
Would you like another shot at that song on Friday, or is there another that you would like to sit in on?
I agree with Gouranga that it is wonderful to see all this positive energy & enthusiasm. It was a shame you couldn't make it Gouranga, I would like to have met you.

I spoke to the Percymeister earlier this evening, he's plotting next year's already. You may be pleased to know that he's intending to run a .....social evening.... on the Friday night in the brewery; I wait to see how well it turns out ;D
