Hi Gouranga, You are not disturbing anyone. A thread about 12 string resonators could be interesting. The National company only produced a few one-off 12 string guitars. They built a couple of Style Os as custom orders in 1933..... ....and a 12 string Havana in 1937.... ....there may be some more 12 string Nationals out there, but none have turned up yet. National Reso-Phonic guitars build a few 12 string guitars, both single cone and Tricone. IMO the Tricone doesn't work properly - the whole idea of a 12 string Tricone is a bit weird to me. The NRP single cone 12 strings are better than the Tricone, but once again I do not think they really work properly. I have never heard the National Style O 12 string pictured above, but I am fairly sure it doesn't sound right as a 12 string. The 12 string Havana, however, is an unbelievable guitar with a unique tone and feel. This is one of the world's great 12 string guitars. I have recorded quite a few tracks with the Havana and I often take it to my acoustic concerts. Dobro & Mostrite built a few 12 string models in the 60s, but I don't have any pics to hand. Perhaps Mark Makin could bring us up to speed on this subject....? Shine On Michael.

...recordings...
Big Wind on Second Mind, Sunflower River on Lucky Charms. Both these tracks feature the 12 string Havana.

Hi Gouranga
From 1967 to 1969, Mosrite (who then owned the Dobro brand name) made some wood bodied 12 string resonators. They were ALL spider resonators (no national type cones)
The basic model was the D12 known as the COLUMBIA. This came in maple or mahogany finish. It also came with a surface mounted pickup under the strings above the resonator. This, logically was called the D12E.
It was also possible to buy them set up (rather strangely) as square neck steel guitars. This was the same guitar as before but was now called the D12S LEXINGTON. This came in the same two options and was also available as an electric (known as the D12SE.
Confusing eh!
They originally sold for around $400 in the 60s. I don't think they were particularly desirable - they certainly ain't now!

Thanks Mark!
Roy Rogers plays a D12 and no doubt has recorded with it. I am fairly sure that You Tube will have a clip of Roy playing it.
When I was involved with the Eric Clapton guitar auction at Christie's back in 1999, EC had two 12 string Dobros. I will have to check the Christie's catalogue to see what models they were.
Shine On Michael.

The Forbidden fruits 12 string is on this forum somewhere. I think it is in the thread about UNUSUAL RESONATOR GUITARS. There have also been a few threads about 12 strings, but I haven't searched for them.
Do any of our forum members own a 12 string resonator guitar that they could talk about?
Shine On Michael.

Hi, Racking my brains on this one but I seem to remember an article in the American magazine 'Guitar Player' maybe 20 - 25 years ago about Jimi Hendrix owning a metal bodied National 12string. Don't know if he ever played it though, (maybe a freebe). There were pictures. No idea who built it. I have the vaguest memory that the 12 was being auctioned off but that may be entirely wrong. I will ponder on this.
As I have got older I find I can remember magazine articles that I read 40 years ago but I forgot to do the washing up after breakfast this morning. Actually I never did remember to wash up. I might be becoming addicted to this web site. Its a brilliant diversion.
I may never wash up again. Especially if the MM production line ever includes a 12 string as I would buy one (seriously). A 12 string bolt would be nice!
