Hi Chris, Good timing, I was just catching up with this thread. It is a simple job to swap the cones, but you would need to adjust the saddle and get the string slots in the right positions. This could be done by copying the spacing on the spider bridge saddle. The height adjustment might take a few tries to get it right. I don't think it needs to be done by a luthier, but I do think it might be quicker done by a luthier. Yesterday I did an electrical job in my house. It was not difficult and I did a pretty good job, but it took me four times as long and a lot of swearing, than it would have taken an electrician to do the work. Next time I'm getting the sparks in to do it! Shine On Michael Sorry Michael, just a quick follow up.. and apologies if this is a silly question…. so if cones & saddles were ‘set up’.. they’d become interchangeable when you changed strings for example. I’m not talking every week.. you know every 6 months or so.. as long as cones, biscuit & spider were stored well. Or am I being overly ambitious ? Haha Hi Chris, I have never really thought about setting one up with both ready to fit and play. I guess there is no reason why that couldn't be done. I would have to pay my luthier more to do both and add that to your price, but that wouldn't be too serious. So, yes it could be done. I would ship the guitar with the spider cone and send the biscuit cone separately so it travelled safely, or...the other way round. Shine On Michael

Shine On Michael Good to hear Michael - It seemed to me like a good idea to get the most from the guitar.. best of both worlds, what's not to love about that?? Don't suppose you want to do a trade for a 12 fret Gibson Custom Shop Advanced Jumbo...? haha. In all seriousness I need to find a way to get my hands on one of these.. hopefully i'll be in touch soon! thanks Chris

Hi everyone. Just a quick bit of information. I emailed Michael about a fiddle edge, and waited for a reply. It ended up coming into my JUNK MAIL days ago. Just a heads up for everyone to check all their email folders etc…

What a beautiful guitar. Clear, pure sound and wonderful body. I'd need 2 of course - one for open D and one for G. Having just watched Bottleneck John's YT video of his fiddle edge, perhaps another 2 for open F and C.I can dream ....
Also, a lovely comment from Robin on the AGF -
Brilliant! We were talking about this back around 2014, and did think that it was going to be easy! Michael is such a lovely guy, I'm so pleased that he's brought the dream home. I learnt so much from him during the years we worked together.

A tricone would be a doddle after this....... It wouldn’t be a doddle, but if I were to go down a similar route I could do it. I’m not going to because there are other tricones out there and I don't want to do another project like the Fiddle Edge. My contribution to the history of resonator guitars are my standard MM Guitars, which I may add a couple of instruments to the range, and the MM Fiddle Edge. Back to making records now!
