Attachment Deletedi read about making your own slides heres a pic of my jig for getting the first cut on the neck the glass cutter is on a sliding swing arm,I somtimes make a double cut eg alongside the ruler,The clear one is for a strat neck to match the radius but find the longer neck Italian bottles better for resos as the internal dia suits my finger size 18/19mm,The dark double cut on the board is very slightly tapered I use it one way to practice a piece and when got it down flip it over onto my pinkie as it also helps me fret behind the slide with a strong finger if I want to put in a minor chord for flavour..yuletide jollifications to you all.

Good luck with the chopping, but you may be disappointed with the end result of cutting a bottleneck from an American whiskey bottle. All of the Bourbon Whiskey bottles we've processed in our shop are misleading in regards to the wall thicknesses - the thickness at the lip (which is pretty substantial!) isn't uniform throughout the neck, so where you may find a good 5mm thickness at the lip end it's usually less than 3mm thick at the bottle 'shoulder' ~ if you're looking for a good, thick-walled bottleneck around 4mm / 4.5mm ~ go with the tried-and-tested dark green European wine bottles Slide On! The Flaschenmeister.

The Flaschenmeister. Hello Ian, all Wanted to ask if you have ever used old bottles. I have a couple found antiques that I was told the lip, neck and bottle were all separate parts that were fused together and it appears that is how they were made. Many of the old raised houses here have a stash of old (100 year + ) bottles underneath. They look like they would work well although I'm a bit hesitant to cut the neck off one that's intact. You are right on about the American whiskey bottles. I swear it seems the designers just keep finding new ways to make it appear that there is more content and yet that 750ml of Buffalo Trace dissapears just as quickly. A close inspection and there are a lot of tapered necks with inconsistent wall thickness. The older bottles seem to be generally heavier. But occasionally there are some bubbles? TiA all best, Jeff

Hey Andy, I copied PD on the Sipsmith route. I don’t really drink gin too often as it tends to turn my head all mid-90’s Billy Corgan so instead I bought an empty bottle on eBay along with an empty Boodles bottle for the same purpose :-) Sent em up to Ian to work his magic. Happy sipping and sliding 🎅🏻 Lew
