Hello NineFingers,
Apology accepted! ...and thank you for understanding.
Please keep in touch & we would be interested to hear about your Delta Resophonic guitars. I hear through the grapevine that you own a 12 string one.....can you post a photo and tell us about it?

John Alderson of Delta Resonators will be coming to the Swindon Blues get together on 15-17 June. John, together with Ian McWee, have been welcome visitors to our 'Swindon weekends' from the outset, bringing a selection of guitars and bottlenecks as well as joining in the jamming, chat and generally enjoying the 'craic'. Theirs is not a hard-sell trade stand: it is a great opportunity for our guests to play John's unique guitars, and try different designs of slides and bottlenecks. Hopefully we'll get the chance to see the Dobro 'in the flesh' at Swindon! Sonya

Hi Michael, I noticed John Alderson's name popping up in this discussion and you asking Ninefingers to talk about his "delta" reso. Well, I'm too a very enthousiastic Delta owner. I used to have several metal body reso's but sold them all (mainly because their weight) and went for a wooden Louisiana made by John and no regrets so far. I always enjoyed working with "small-time" luthiers as they add so much variety to the guitarworld. Music says so much more than words so here are a few youtube clips of me playing it and tell me if I'm enjoying myself or not And here's a clip of my also fine Dobro made by Joseph Yanuziello, looks a bit like the one you use on your excellent Sound Techniques dvd Cheers, Carl/bansuri/daddystovepipe

Hi Bansuri,
Thanks for your post on this thread. Your playing sounds great and so do the guitars. I am not sure, but I think I know your Yanuziello Dobro. I saw that you bought it on eBay, where was the seller based?
This is an interesting thread. Ity started with blue Dobros and now we are talking about Delta Resophonic guitars. Healthy cyber conversation!
If Nine fingers is reading this...please post your 12 string pics so we can all see it.
Good to hear from you and keep in touch,
Shine On, Michael

Hi Michael, Thanks for the compliments. Indeed, I got the Yanuziello from ebay last year. The seller, Jim McMahon London is based, if I remember it well; he bought it at the London Reso Center. He sold it because he had the same one made but with inbuilt electronics. It's a small world isn't it Cheers, Carl

Hi Carl,
It is not the guitar I thought it was, but I have seen it when it was at the LRC. It is a small world. It's good to know where all the guitars are! Both your guitars sound very good on the You Tube films. I am a big Muddy Waters fan too.
Shine On, Michael.

I recently got the blue Dobro back from Dave King. It had a neck reset and a Schatten Dobro/National pickup fitted. I have yet to road test the Schatten, but so far it sounds very good. I am a little concerned that it may have muted some of the highs, but I have yet to hear it with and without the pickup. Once again Dave has done a lovely job and the guitar is in perfect playing shape again.
When we tested the Schaller magnetic pickup that was fitted in 1984 (the one in the photos), it was awful and had an unbalanced sound, so it has been removed. I am now looking for an interesting magnetic pickup to fit in its place.
I look forward to road testing the Schatten. The two names are quite similar and not to be confused....Schaller & Schatten.
Schine On, Michael

Hello guys, this is my first post and hopefully not a cheecky one. Michael - I know you were bringing this topic around from Delta guitars back to your very own blue beast. And I must say that it is gorgeous. But please excuse me for a minute (I also didn't want to start a thread about Delta incase anyone thought I was taking the proverbial). I'd just like to say that I was round with John from Delta yesterday having a beer or two (as always seems to happen when we're in the same room for more than 20 seconds) and he has heard about the comments that people have posted and he was very flattered. He was also saying how nice it was to have a chat with Michael. He seemed to have a good time (which he always does when talking guitars). Ninefingers - I think I have met your guitar in person, John always shows me the latest creations when I'm round his - which is fairly often as we're working on a top secret project together ;D (he's the brains and I'm the good looking one ;D). I'm also 99% sure that I've seen the 12 string (like I say - beer is often involved so it's hard for me to remember). Either way, I'll print out this thread and pass it to John next time I see him. I like the forum, I've been browsing and there may be a couple of threads where I can offer a bit of free advise (which is generally worth exactly what you paid for it). Sadly though, I've just got back to work after a 3 week holiday so I doubt I'll be able to come out and play until next week. See you around guys, have a good one. Now back to the blue guitar.............

Hi Tonemonkey, Welcome to our friendly little forum. Your post is not at all cheeky, it is welcome. I too enjoyed chatting with John the other day and was sorry I could not make it to Stamford at the weekend to continue our conversation about fiddle-edge Dobros. I still think we need a Delta Resophonic thread, but not a set up as an advert. We have a few professional guitar makers & repairers as members, and I think their communicating with the community via this and other forums is a very good way for everyone to get to know each other, and to learn about each others' work. I noticed you mention you can offer some free advice on some of our threads. That is most welcome and is the way we all operate on this forum. We have some of the leading authorities on their respective subjects, and some very well known musicians, luthiers & repairers as contributors and members, and everyone chips in their advice, experience and knowledge for free. That way it is non-competitive and only about sharing knowledge & learning. I look forward to hearing from you again. Keep in touch. Shine On, Michael. ..... now where's that blue Dobro.....? ;D
