Hi, I onced talked to a fella that operated a foundry about 30's alumminum in reso cones, and he told me no matter what, you could not replicate alunimmum fabricated in the 30's on account that the smelters do not work it the same way they did back then, its made cheaper today and less strong!
I have a 30's vintage cone in a Jazz-Blues made in Don Youngs mothers garage in the eighties, and while its quieter than any NR made today the sound that comes out of that guitar freaks everybody out!

Hi, the main reason National Resophonic changed the neck angle was to put more pressure on a thicker cone, seen as they don't spin them as thin as the National of old could,
I have know over the years many people who have had there necks reset on there national most times new cone installed, and it seems more often than not someting is lost(sound wise!)
I know another well know Blues player, who's National has a sagging cone,he has the strings under strung(strings passed under the tail-piece) and this is about the best sounding National I'VE ever played! go figure,

I've tried that guitar in question, and I can tell you it smokes any of the brands that it hangs next to on the wall, and it doesn't hang next to any asian guitars! It sounds uncannyily(sp?) like my 34 Duo,but with more bass, not as heavy either,
