I found this which lists Alan Lomaxes gear for his "Southern Journey"trip, which I think was when he did those beautiful recordings of Fred McDowell. It lists one Altec lipstick mic.and three RCA DCA 77 mics..We can only guess at the configuration/set up.As for his earlier later gear and the gear his dad John used who knows?!!.

Awful news. One of the few guitarists, outside of the blues genre, that I fervently listened to.My favourite classical player...warmth,supreme feel and absolute fire...a magician.

Henry Thomas.I`m fascinated by the whole pre/early blues thing. His only recorded slide song and a good`un....
One of my favourite blues out of E position... And the timeless...

I prefer a wound third on a reso..The main purpose of an unwound third is to facilitate bending and the guage I use on a reso is reasonably heavy so it seems pointless.I also think heavy guage unwound thirds can sound cold/dead.However,I do use resonator exclusively for slide playing. My wood bodied guitars are a different matter...lighter guage and an unwound third..I couldn`t play half of what I play otherwise.

I`ve been listening to the talented chap in my avatar.I hear a lot of Big Joe in the playing/music of Robert Johnson.
