Hi all, If you missed the BBC World Service broadcast "Close Up" this afternoon, you can listen again to this very interesting programme on the life and music of Tau Moe, steel guitarist extraordinaire, at: www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/programmes/close_up.shtmlThis is Part 1. Part 2 is being broadcast next Friday at the same time, I guess, 3:30 pm BST. Enjoy!

Thanks. I really enjoyed that. I wonder if we will ever see the Tau Moe film that Bob worked up with tau and Rose.

Mahalo Stuart!
I'm siting here in Vancouver, Canada (home of Steve Dawson) listening to the BBC...
I'm passing this on to the Vancouver Hawaiian guitar association, Loraine Ruymar, Michael Dunn and others here who love the music.
Wow!
Aloha nui loa,
Colin
ps.. I'm in London at the end of the month, I see that Catfish Keith is in Putney so will definitely be going to see him, I remember the last time I saw him. You, Lee, me and Mad Kate....!!! Those were the days... See you there?

Colin,
Hope to see you there, or if you're near where the Southern cross the Dog (M1/M25), do come and see us! Esp. if there are any tin cans you want to offload...
Re part 2 of the BBC World Service Tau Moe programme broadcast this afternoon: I found this very disappointing compared with the excellent first part. Looks like they ran out of material and decided to do an advert for the Hawaiian independence movement/tourist office/shirt makers' guild instead!

How can I listen to #1 again...? I can't find it in their 'archive' so does this mean it is no longer available? I'll try and see you when in the UK, do you want an xpt, nicely cut from square to round (not by me It plays well, when I bought it ,sight unseen, I was told it was a Spanish, so I'll let it go for well below what I paid (sob).. 1,250 Pounds cash and I'll bring it with me.... By the time I saw it I'd paid Canadian customs and shipping etc and wasn't up to the fight of sending it back..

BTW That is the third XPT I've had that have suffered the 'cut'... Martin Wheatley has the first one, does anyone have his email?
I finally found a genuine square neck XPT a year or so ago, it had been sitting in water (luckily upright) at some point and has tidemarks on the finish reaching about 6" up the body. The plated steel tail piece was rusted right away, but the brass body was almost untouched, as was the plated steel(!) cone pan. The neck stick was rather soggy/punky at the tail end too!
Dried out, polished, restrung etc she sings again, but the wood neck Hawaiians with Brass bodies definitely aren't the match of the hollow neck 'uns..

Hi Colin, Re the XPT: you got yourself a deal! Wheel it in... Just let me know when and where. Just what I need for the lifelong Tricone Tessellation Project: Re Part 1 of the Tau Moe series: apparently some people record while they listen... . And you can probably get Martin's email address from Ukulele Dave at: altdac@yahoo.com. Look forward to seeing you!
