Is the Blues weekend an annual thing? Is it usually in the Autumn? I think I'd like to come this year. It would be nice to learn stuff and meet the guys and gals on this excellent forum.
Cheers, Peter

The Pocklington weekend is fun (I went to the first 4 or 5) but it's a long trip for someone from the South. Getting things in place (venue, accommodation etc.) takes time and money, but a spring gathering might be good, who wants to be the banker? PT Thinking about it, the best place would be West of London, but close to the motorway system,M1,M4,M3,M25. Hopefully someone on the forum lives around there and can come up with something?

Is there a hotel in Pocklington particularly favoured by the Blues Weekend attendees?

Hi Peter,
Yes, we book the Feathers Hotel. I have block booked it for the weekend, but the sooner you book a room.... because it is 100 metres from the venue it fills up very early.

Hi there !
I'd love to come to one of these things eventually. Now I'm in the family way though, with a wife that works too, and at weekends on-call sometimes, it's difficult getting the time away. Got to do lots of "ulterior motive" type discussions to work out a way to manage it !! (or "time off for good behaviour" as I like to call it !!!).
The weekends are the time I get to spend the most time with my kids while they are young. Soon as they are teenagers, they probably won't want to spend time with me !! Hopefully these guitar weekends will still be running by then ??? !!!

Dinnae fash yersel SH, my brood has flown the nest and I'm working on Mrs.PD for a trip to Pocklington with little success at the moment.
In my old gigging days, Colne and Burnley festivals could have ended up as a pain in the airse if she wanted to come up for the weekend too. It was OK when we started and played the little venues but when we got promoted to the heights, life got difficult. She couldn't get it into her head that she would be bored as I was playing a gig with sound checks, meeting and seeing other bands and all that stuff. She wasn't allowed in the green room or backstage so she stayed at the B&B out in the sticks reading her book as she didn't drive. This occurred for one time only. The next times I organized my daughter to take her out for a ladies spa day - it blew my gig money but it solved the problem. She was happy, I was happy - just sayin'......

I am divorced so I don't have those constraints but I am not sure I would recommend it as a solution. At the risk of going way off topic for the forum: Snakehips, I think you have got it pretty well sussed as far as the kids are concerned. You will never get the chance to spend time with them back and in my experience, when they are teenagers they will find you playing guitar (or doing just about anything) toe-curlingly embarrassing. However, if you can get to Pocklington, I am sure you will find it really worthwhile and enjoyable.

There is a Buddist retreat just down the road from Pocklington, meditation and veggie food, might appeal to some :-)
