Hi I spent last night recording my slide playing - couldn't sleep in the heat ;D ;D. I practised a while till i worked out something that sounded allright and then started recording. Thing is i tuned the guitar before i recorded and it didnt' sound quite as good as previously. Is this because my brain needed to recalibrate slightly for the slide? - by take 16 it sounded better. Or is being slightly out of tune all part of the 'feel' of the music. I'm guessing the Slide players of old wern't as anal as i can get about not being in tune. 4 hours work for 37 seconds of Ry cooder ish sound Roj

Hi Roj,
Playing in tune with a slide is more difficult than it first appears. It is impossible to really advise you without hearing the track, but I would recommend more care with your vibrato and use your ears to tell you if a note is in tune, rather than your eyes.
Keep on keeping on, Shine On, Michael.

Hi Mike
It took some time to understand your response more fully. After Bluesweek i was totally pumped for slide playing. After two days of no playing and i just found i couldnt get anywhere near the sound i was getting on bluesweek. Two weeks of taking one single song and working on the sound, syncopation, vibrato etc every night, i can now get it more regularly - using my ears more to guide my hands. Made me more confidant a player too.
So cheers - i got it eventually ;D ;D
Hi to all at Bluesweek - i was the large bloke playin slide on the small parlour a la Oreo Cookie Blues.
